Dhikr

Beautiful. SubhanAllah, I remember when we did a maulad recently. Was nice. Doing Zikr for the save of Allah tala is something so different and beautiful.

Your own soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel.

So true!

However (because I sensed negativity in your comment), there are levels of dhikr and there are levels of saying something. There is rote/parrot repetition which I believe you refered to. If this is repeated then yes, like all good brain-washing exercises it will fix itself in your conscience.
Spiritual chanting, however, does not end there. For authentic spiritual chanting, focus is needed on what is being said. We agree that if you say anything enough you will believe it to be true, but to ascend to the level of spiritual chanting you have to embrace it as true from the outset and shape your focus like a telescope or vehicle so that each time you chant you are ardently wishing to attain deeper realisations of it quality of truth.

If the chanting is authentic then realisations will come, insights will illuminate your mind and experiences will be attained. There must first be a minimum level of self-sacrificing devotion, where you leave your cynacism and sceptacism at the door, then when your have made yourself submissive you must become active and reach with longing for the essence of the chanting.

Devotion does not dance its dance without working up great heat, and that heat does not work itself up without burning the devotee and the devotee is not burned without feeling the fire of those flames and he does feel that fire except that he escapes and transcends them. True dhikr is the fire that makes the religious pickings nutritious.

Gentleness and kindness were never a part of anything except that it made it beautiful, and harshness was never a part of anything except that it made it ugly.
