Friday's Fire Alarm.

At my sixth form, there's about 8 blocks/separate buildings. One of them is the RS/dining block, you can call it whatever you like. In one of the rooms upstairs, almost all of the Muslim students in the school come to pray Dhuhr during the lunch break. You even have the little Year 7's who don't usually wear a Hijab, but they take time out, to make wudhu and carry a Hijab in their bag, which i find really cute.

Well, this Friday, i had assumed it was going to be just like any other. I went over to the room, and began to pray. For some reason, there weren't any other students around, so they'd probably prayed before me. I was in my last Rak'ah and all of a sudden the fire alarm decides to go off. I wasn't sure whether it was just a test drill or a real one, so i decided to continue praying and just as i was about to finish...

The teacher who was sitting on the PC at the back of the room, came right next to me and said: 'I'm really sorry, but i'm afraid your going to have to stop what your doing and leave the building'. (It was along those lines). So i quickly folded my prayer mat away, put on my shoes and left the building with her.

I felt so awkward and embarrassed inside. I knew she was trying to make me hurry up and leave because the lower school canteen is downstairs and anything could've happened down there, really. She was doing what she's supposed to do as a teacher, and thats her priority i suppose. But what are you really supposed to do? Make Salaam and end your Salat there? You can't risk your safety, can you?

I thought it had ended there. We were all lined up, and saying Yes Sir as our form teachers called out our names, and about 5-10 minutes later a group of around 10 sixthformers just walk onto the field and the Assistant Heads have a stern word with them.

Later on i asked them why they were so late, and apparently, they were in the GermanFilmClub, watching a German Film. *Doh* So, when the fire alarm went off, they had all assumed it was part of the film, because the fire alarm fitted in really well with the robbery scene they were watching. They decided to pause the film to make sure it wasn't a 'real' fire alarm, but by then the fire alarm had stopped, so they continued to watch the film.

It was only till later that the groundsmen had come to check all the rooms, and to their amazement found them there. I actually found it really really funnay, but i'm glad they're still alive and it wasn't anything serious. From what i've heard, it was just a microwave in the sixth form block which had 'blown-up?'
