Murder Trial of Lee Rigbys Killers

A man has admitted killing soldier Lee Rigby but said it was not murder because "I am a soldier of Allah" and "this is a war".

Michael Adebolajo, 28, described the killing as a "military operation".

He also told the Old Bailey he loved extremist network al-Qaeda.

The prosecution says he and Michael Adebowale, 22 - who also denies murder - rammed Fusilier Rigby with a car in Woolwich, south-east London, on 22 May, before attacking him with knives.

They are also both accused of attempting to murder a police officer and conspiracy to murder a police officer.

Gender Segregation in Universities??!!

Students in the UK are demonstrating against university guidelines allegedly backing gender segregation. Channel 4 News looks at what sparked the debate in the UK's biggest universities.

Campaigners are targeting Universities UK (UUK) offices in Tavistock Square, London, after the organisation published a report last month saying universities could segregate by gender during talks from external speakers.

In the report, UUK claimed that universities faced a complex balance of promoting freedom of speech without breaking equality and discrimination laws.

Muslim Patrol Jailed for Attempting to Impose Sharia Law in London

"Metro" wrote:

Three Muslim vigilantes who recorded their attempts to impose sharia law on the streets of London before posting the clips on YouTube have been jailed.

The trio, members of a self-styled ‘Muslim Patrol’ group, threatened strangers for holding hands, drinking alcohol and other behaviour they deemed ‘un-Islamic’.

Jordan Horner, 19, Ricardo McFarlane, 26, and a third man who can’t be named for legal reasons yesterday pleaded guilty to a variety of charges, including actual bodily harm and affray.

Transcend the Ordinary

A stone cannot learn to rise up to the sky even if you were to toss it into the air a thousand times.

Likewise, a flame from a campfire cannot descend into the ground.

Habits are part of the automatic actions of our everyday lives, though we are conscious of them. They are like a hidden memory bank that instructs us how to carry out the all the actions needed to accomplish most of what we want to do.

This is why Aristotle regarded habits as a “second nature” which ultimately refers back to the “primary nature” or instinct. The difference is that habits are learned behaviors while instincts are innate.

Protest against the banning of Niqab at Birmingham Metropolitan College

Event Date:
Wednesday, 11 September, 2013 - 13:30

The banning of the face veil at one of the largest colleges in the country is setting a dangerous precedence. Muslim women already face many challenges in society leading to marginalisation and discrimination. We are underrepresented in education and subsequently in public life and the workforce. Decisions like the one taken by the leadership at Matthew Bolton College make things worse for women who already face an uphill battle against endemic discrimination.

Please join our protest against this Islamophobic and illogical decision to ban the face veil. We need to take a stand against such hysterical and discriminatory decisions. Brothers welcome, as are none muslims who understand the need to preserve the rights of muslim women and freedom of expression for society as a whole.

Tackling Shadeism: London

Event Date:
Thursday, 12 September, 2013 - 17:30 to 19:30

Inclusive Mosque Initiative's Masjid As-Subul discusses: Tackling Shadeism
Date: Thursday, 12 September 2013
Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Location: CAN Mezzanine, 49-51 East Road, Room A in basement, London, N1 6AH. Nearest tube is Old Street.
Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/522767067816571/

Shadeism: “A form of skin tone bias that identifies groups and individuals on the basis of degree of skin pigmentation. It is an evaluation of people that minutely registers traits such as skin colour, hair, and facial features to construct social hierarchies.”

Discrimination against people with darker skin still occurs daily. Worse, for many communities it is completely normalised. In today's discussion we'd like to hear your thoughts on how to tackle shadeism so that the next generation know that dark skin is just as beautiful as any other shade.

We'd like to hear your thoughts on how shadeism affects us emotionally and pschologyically. What are it's long-term effects? How can bystanders to shadeism help?

Note: Refreshments will be available. We always begin our events with a jamaat salah to which everyone is welcome to join. Registration is requested with a suggested donation of only £5 in advance or on the day, if you can afford more then please feel free to do so. This goes towards the venue and speakers costs.
