Disagree with Anon.

Having fun is important. If you dont have a lil fun your not gonna enjoy anything your doing. Your not gonna be happy. And anyone who says happiness aint essential to life is either lying or really stupid.

The prophet (pbuh) used to engage in sports as a form of time pass and enjoyment. Its the same thing.

Im not saying spend ALL your time having fun, ofcorse there are gonna be other things that demand you attention, i.e. your education, your job, your duties to your family, your duties to Allah (swt) etc. but you have to have a little fun otherwise your gonna burn yourself out and anythng you do will be half hearted.

Feel free not to reply to this.

@ Appa, If i've understood Anon1's comment correctly I don't think you're actually disagreeing with her!

You appear to think the Islamic philosophy permits any philosophy by picking one ayat or a couple of hadiths. It doesn't! It has a distinct outlook and creates distinct dispositions in those who follow it - the dispositions of Muslims has never been that everything should be fun - let's not talk about death as it is non-fun doom and gloom! Raise the latter topic with any kuffar student at university in the west and see the reaction!

Allowing fun is not the same as hedonism.

You always jump to extremes.

Oh sorry - they seemed to have missed out all the fun bits! How do you know? Well they've not documented it so it must be missing!!! What nonsense!

Actually, it is more a case of you missing out on the Where's the fun in Islam? topic which mentioned such bits.

He is. Her position is "there are Muslims suffering in the world, how dare you enjoy yourselves at all!"

She is not advocating a position of moderation, but one where no fun is allowed at all. She tried to use a saying of hadhrat Umar (ra) where he mentioned on his deathbed that due to him becoming the caliph, he had not been able to spend as much time with his family etc as proof that fun is not allowed at all when there is some evil in the world.

And if we didn't there would no value to life

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane, by those who couldn't hear the music...

Does this extend to sharing a flat too?

(the alpha male theory is interesting... does that make me the top dog?)

alpha dog sounds WAY too cool...

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

1. What is the alpha male theory? Where have I heard of it before?
2. I disagree, Ocean.

There is a hadith where the Prophet and his companions used to whack each other with melon skins for fun, so mate fun is allowed in Islam, so long it's not excessive and it isn't harmful.

“Before death takes away what you are given, give away whatever there is to give.”

Mawlana Jalal ud Din Rumi

you use the word "mate" a lot. By a lot I mean this is the second time you have used it that I remember.

Just an obervation.

LOL! I think I'm slowly becoming Australian! I just say it to seem friendly and approachable.
