Every son of Sayyidina Adam alayhis salaam is a sinner, and the best of sinners are those who repent.
MashaALLAH it is encouraging that Sayyidah has freed women from the clutches of Aapas (Madames) and from the hands of politicians. May ALLAH grant her high reward for being a true daughter of Ummul Mu'mineen Aisha radhiyallahu anha.
but if i was being beaten up by a religious fanatic-i'd want my parnter to intervene
And just how exactly do you expect him to do that.
He cant touch the other women, let alone hit them.
he can try to seperate them
what kind of man sits and watches whilst his wife unfairly gets beatn up by a religious fanatic?

And how do you suppose he seperate them without getting involved? As any man will tell you if we interfere in a girl fight they will hit him and not every man is capable of taking such a hit from a girl without decking her.

Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to Saudi newspapers.
About 800 pupils were inside the school in the holy city of Mecca when the tragedy occurred
One witness said he saw three policemen "beating young girls to prevent them from leaving the school because they were not wearing the abaya".
The Saudi Gazette quoted witnesses as saying that the police - known as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice - had stopped men who tried to help the girls and warned "it is a sinful to approach them".
The father of one of the dead girls said that the school watchman even refused to open the gates to let the girls out.

Islam is the Key to paradise but without practice it won't open the gates.

only a heartless monster wud approve of the above
it seems in certain parts of the world the willingness to display virtue over-rides common sense.
