August 20th - Chapter 5: The Etiquette of Du'a (final part)

19. To Say Amin

When a person is listening to someone else making du'a, it is recommended the he says Amin, which means 'O Allah! Accept (or respond) to this du'a. It is like repeating the du'a all over again through the use of just that small phrase.

To say Amin after reciting Surah al-Fatihah is encouraged, regardless of whether one is praying, or reciting it outside the prayer, and regardless of whether one is the Imam or the follower. At all such times Amin should be stated with an audible voice

When Musa prayed to Allah to punish Pharaoh, it is said that Harun was behind him saying Amin. Yet even though Musa was actually the one who made the du'a, Allah said in the Quran: "Your (both of you) prayers have been answered!" - Surah Yunus

Mistakes in pronounciations:

1) Prolonging the alif - Aaaaaameen

2) Making the alif too short - Ameen. The length of
the alif should be 2 harakas (Aameen)

3 Placing an assimilation (shadda) on the meem so it becomes Ammmmeen

As for the last syllable it is permissible to shorten it to harakahs or pronlong it upto 6 (Ameeeeen)

20. To Make Du'a at All Times

In other words, du'a should be done at times of ease and hardship. Many people have a bad habit of only praying when a calamity befalls them, or when they wish for a particular good to occur. This goes against the attitude of the believer, for a true believer always remembers Allah. The prophet(saw) stated:

"Whoever wishes that Allah responds to his du'a at time of hardship, then let him increase his du'a at times of ease!"

21. To Make Du'a for All Matters
Another common mistake is that many people fall into is that they only ask for matters that are of great importance to them. However Allah should be asked for every matter large, or small because everything occurs by Allah's Will, no matter how trivial.

Aisha(ra) said: "Ask Allah for everything, even if it a shoe-lace, because if Allah does not make it easy then it will not be possible."

22. To Make Du'a Plentifully

The prophet(saw) said: "When one of you asks for something(from Allah), then let him be plentiful (in what he asks for), for indeed he is asking his Lord."

23. To Make Du'a When One is in a Condition of Response

There are certain conditions during which a person's du'a is more likely to be responded to, so the wise person utilises these situations and conditions whenever he is capable of doing so.

Our Beloved (salahu alayhi wasalam) said in a Hadith that is agreed upon:

إن الله لا يقبض العلم انتزاعا ينتزعه من العباد، ولكن يقبض العلم بقبض العلماء، حتى إذا لم يبق عالما، اتخذ الناس رؤوسا جهالا، فسئلوا، فأفتوا بغير علم، فضلوا وأضلوا

“Indeed, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars, until there remains no scholar and the people take the ignorant as their leaders. Then they are asked and give religious judgments without knowledge, they go astray and cause other to go astray.”

August 19th - Chapter 5: The Etiquette of Du'a continued (even more) 😃

16. To Use the Du'as of the Quran and Sunnah

These du'as are blessed and there are many evidences that such du'as have more chance of being responded to.

Regarding the last verse of Surah al-Baqarah,

"O Our Lord! Do not punish us if we forget, or fall into error. O Our Lord! Do not place a burden on us, as you have placed upon those before us! Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us..."

The prophet(saw) said, "Allah has said: Yes I have done so"

These du'as are of the Straight Path-the Path of those whome Allah has favoured; the prophets, the sincere, the martyrs and the righteous.

Of course this does not mean that one is obligated to stick to the du'as of the Quran and sunnah. However, there is no doubt that the speech of Allah and teh speech of the Messenger of Allah(saw) is a blessed speech and therefore the du'as narrated in them are more worthy than other du'as.

One who uses such du'as should be aware of the meanings of them. If one merely reads such du'as without understanding what he is reading, then he has contradicted most of the etiquettes of du'a, for how can he sincerely and humbly petition Allah when he does not even know what he is asking for?

17. To Start Du'a with One's Self

It is desirable that the person making du'a should first ask of it for himself. This is for a number of reasons. Firstly, a person should desire all good for himself. Thirdly, (yh I knw 2 follows one, but dnt worry u didnt miss out 😃 ) it increases him in his sincerity in his du'a, for verily mankind is weak, so when he makes du'a only for his brother, it is possible it will not be as sincere as when he makes du'a for himself and his brother.

However there examples of the prophet(saw) making du'a without mentioning one's self, but in general it is recommended to do so.

18. To Pray for All Muslims

Part of the completeness of one's iman is that a person loves for his brother what he loves for himself. Therefore just as he desires that he be guided to the truth and be forgiven for his sins, so too shopuld he desire for his fellow muslims.

The prophet(saw) is commanded in the Quran to: "..seek forgiveness(from Allah)for your sins, and the sins of the believing men and women." - Surah Muhammad

and the Prophet(saw) said: "Whoever seeks forgiveness for the believing men and women, then a good deed will be written for him for every single believing man and woman (that he prayed for)

Of particular importance is that a person prays for his own parents (if they are alive, or if they died as muslims). Allah specifically instructs the believers in this respect: "And lower unto them the wings of humility mercy, and say 'O My Lord! Have mercy on them, even as they took care of me while I was young'" - Surah al-Isra

7. To pray with Humility and Fear

“Call upon your Lord with humility, and in secret. Verily, He does not like aggressors.” – Surah al-A’raf

So it is important that the servant show humility to the Creator and humble himself while making du’a. For is it not befitting that a slave appear in front of his Creator and Master in a state of humility and realising the status of his Lord, fearing his own shortcomings in his duty towards Him?

8. To Complain Only to Allah

Part of the completeness of a person’s tawhid is that he does not complain to anyone else, in order to gain sympathy and pity. Complaining to Allah is of great benefit while complaining to the people is of no benefit. Complaining however does not contradict patience as Yaqub (as) said:

“I only complain of my distraction and anguish to Allah” – Surah Yusuf. There are many other examples in the Quran of the other prophets who would turn to Allah in their time of need.

Would you seek the help of another created being, who cannot benefit or harm himself without Allah’s help, much less benefit or harm others? And why would one seek to gain the pity of he who himself should be pitied due to his helplessness and incapability?

9. To Pray Quietly

A person should not pray loudly, so that others can hear him, but rather in a subdued voice.

Once the Companions were travelling and loudly engaging in dhikr. The prophet ﷺ said: “O people! Be gentle on yourselves, for you are not calling someone who is deaf or absent. Rather, you are calling the One Who hears everything, Ever-Close.”

The one who is humble does not ask except meekly, whereas the one who is arrogant asks loudly. So softening the voice aids one in achieving this desired humility in du’a.

Lowering one’s voice a person will be able to cut himself off from his environment and not be distracted by it and prevents a person being the target of jealousy as there is no greater cause for enmity than to see a person turn to Allah in private conversation.

Al Hassan al-Basri said: “We used to be amongst a group of people (the Companions) who would never do any act in public if they could do so in private. Those muslims would strive in making their du’a and not a sound would be heard from them! For they used to whisper to their Lord.”

10. Acknowledging One’s Sins

Ali ibn Abi Talib reported that the prophet ﷺ said: "Verily Allah likes a worshipper who says:

'There is no one worthy of worship except You. I have wronged myself, so forgive my sins, for none forgives sins except You’ Allah say ‘My servant knows that he has a Lord who forgives and punishes!’”
So when one raises his hands to Allah, expecting a response from Him, one should also ponder over his relationship with Allah and the shortcomings that he possesses. He should remember that he is asking One whom he has disobeyed and not fulfilled his rights upon Him'"

11. To Implore Allah Earnestly

Of the etiquette of du'a is that a person implores Allah and beseeches Him. This sense of urgency is demonstrated in the sunnah of the prophet (saw).

Aisha(ra)reported that when the prophet(saw)was afflicted with magic, he made du'a, then he made du'a, then he made du'a

12.To be Determined in One's Request

Anas ibn Malik(ra) narrated that the prophet(saw) said: "When one of you makes du'a, then let him be firm and determined in his du'a and let him not say, 'O Allah! If You will then please forgive me' for there is no one who can force Allah to do anything."

It is as if a person is saying "Oh Allah! If You answer my du'a then I thank You, otherwise I do not ask You of it". This implies self-suffiency on the part of the person making the du'a. A person is always in need of Allah's help and should always ask in a manner that shows his need for Allah's support.

13. To Use the Proper Names and Attributes of Allah

Whatever a person is asking for, there will be an appropriate Divine Name or Attribute that he can use.

14. To Repeat the Du'a Three Times

This is a recommended action and narrated in many ahadith from the prophet(saw)for it shows a sense of urgency in obtaining what is asked for.

15. To Pray with Concise Du'as

The prophet(saw) used to avoid prolonged and useless speech as reported by Aisha(ra)

Mujahideen officials say on Monday that Mujahideen fought a deadly battle with the NATO invaders and their puppets in Sarhawza district of Paktika province on Monday morning. The clash unfolded in the morning hours of the day when the enemy combat patrol came under Mujahideen attack triggering a one-hour long fighting killing as many as 17 NATO invaders and their cowardly minions and wounding 14 more as well as destroying three vehicles and two tanks, the report said. US base struck with missiles in Kunar Aug. 15

PRT in Kandahar city comes under mortar attack, enemy vehicle destroyed Aug. 15 – An invaders PRT building located in the heart of Kandahar city was struck by mortar rounds fired by Mujahideen last night however the extent of damage and casualties caused is not known. Meanwhile, an enemy logistical vehicle caught fire and was destroyed after coming under an armed attack yesterday afternoon time, officials said, adding that the puppet driver was also killed in the attack. 2 US tanks eliminated in Panjwaee Aug. 15 – Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate, using a 82mm cannon shot and destroyed 2 US tanks at 07:00 am this morning in Pashmool’s Char Kosa area, Panjwaee district. It is said that the wreckages of the tanks are still lying in the mentioned area however the number of enemy casualties caused is not known. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

NDS agent killed in guerilla attack Aug. 15 – Habib, an agent working for NDS of Shahjoe district was gunned down and killed by Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate at 07:00 am in the district bazaar. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

US invaders suffer fatal losses in ambush Aug. 15 – An ambush attack by Mujahideen on a US foot patrol turned into a 2 hour firefight at 08:00 am this morning in Pashmool area of Panjwaee district in which the enemy suffered deadly casualties, the numbers of which are not known whereas 2 Mujahideen were also martyred (may Allah accept them) and 2 others injured. Commander and 5 gunmen killed in IED attack Aug. 15 – A local police commander along with 5 of his gunmen were killed at 11:30 am today when their vehicle was blown to bits by an IED in Basolano area of Nawa district. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

Roadside bomb rips through US tank Aug. 15 – All invaders onboard their tank were killed and wounded when a roadside bomb ripped through it in Maiwand’s Mira Khor Durahi area at around 09:00 am this morning. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

Enemy vehicle destroyed by mine Aug. 15 – Some 5 puppets were instantly killed at 09:30 am today when a mine in Mira Khor Durahi area of Maiwand district blew their vehicle to pieces. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

Another US tank wrecked in Zhiri Aug. 15 – A US tank passing near Kandwali area of Zhiri district was struck and destroyed by an anti-tank mine this morning at around 08:00 am. All invaders inside were killed and wounded but their numbers are not known. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

2 American tanks destroyed in Sangin IED attacks Aug. 15 – Reports from Sangin district indicate that at 08:00 pm yesterday, an IED in Pa-en village obliterated a US tank, instantly killing all invaders inside besides Mujahideen recovering a rifle and a pistol from the scene while a similar blast near the district bazaar blew apart another tank, killing and wounding all onboard last night at around 09:00 pm. 3 enemy fuel tankers destroyed in Rabat-e-Sangi Aug. 14 – Reports from Rabat-e-Sangi district say that an armed attack at around 02:00 pm today on Torghondi road left 2 NATO fuel tankers wrecked and killed 3 security escort personnel and a bomb blast on a NATO logistical convoy in Khaluk area obliterated another fuel tanker, killing the driver and wounding another puppet onboard at 03:00 pm. Land mine attacks take out US tank and police vehicle Aug. 14 – Some 4 puppet police onboard their vehicle were killed when a land mine ripped through it at 10:00 am in Marjah’s Abdul Salam Charahi area, meanwhile a similar blast in the district’s Abdullah Qulf area obliterated a US patrol tank at around 03:00 pm, killing and wounding all invaders inside. Roadside bomb tears apart US tank Aug. 14 – All invaders onboard their tank were killed and wounded at 03:30 pm when a roadside bomb tore it apart in Nad Ali district’s Tiri Manda area. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

2 police gunned down and killed in Shomolzo Aug. 14 – Mujahideen reporting from Shomolzo district state that they gunned down and killed 2 puppet police of Qala Rasheed check post in an area by the same name at 10:00 am today while riding on a motorbike. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

4 police killed, vehicle eliminated in armed attack Aug. 14 – At least 4 puppet police were killed at 12:30 pm today and 2 others seriously wounded when their vehicle was targeted by Mujahideen in an ambush in Qari Sada’s Gori area, Marjah district. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

3 invaders killed and wounded in Marjah Aug. 14 – An American invader was killed and 2 wounded in a clash with Mujahideen at around noon time today in Marjah’s Sistani area which also left a Mujahid with a slight injury. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

American terrorist left dead during clash Aug. 14 – A clash which took place in Nad Ali’s Shamalan Wiyala area at 10:00 am today left an American terrorist dead while another one was severely wounded. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

District and police headquarters attacked in Ghor Aug. 14 – Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate, using heavy and light weapons carried out an attack on the district and police headquarters of Dawlina district last night as a high level meeting was taking place between ISAF invaders and their puppets. It is said that in the successful attack, 3 enemy security personnel were killed and 2 wounded besides the buildings sustaining severe damage. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi

6 innocent civilians martyred during raids in northern Faryab Aug. 14 – Officials and witnesses from northern Faryab province state that barbaric ISAF terrorists carried out night raids during the past 2 nights in which 3 innocent civilians were martyred in Qisar district and 3 others in Almar district. It is said that civilian property was also badly damaged by the savage invaders in their illegal encroachments. Reported by Qari Muhammad Yousuf Ahmadi
