was Bin Laden a friend or enemy of Islam

Hamza13 —

Allah says in the Qur'an what means:

{Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities.Lo! Allah loves not, aggressors.}* (Al-Baqarah 2:190)

The above permission to fight clearly lays down the following conditions: (1) Never commit aggression; fighting is allowed only for self-defense. (2) Fighting must never be against non-combatants or non-fighting personnel.

The Prophet used to instruct his followers during battles and tell them not to be embittered or inclined to commit treachery. He asked them to spare non-combatants, particularly children and hermits. The Prophet Muhammad gave the following instructions during all wars; they were echoed by Caliph Abubakar to the commander who led the campaign to Syria:

"Do not betray, be treacherous or vindictive. Do not mutilate. Do not kill children, the aged or women. Do not cut or burn palm trees or fruit trees or any green tree. Do not slay a sheep, a cow, or camel except for your food. And you will come across people who take refuge in places of worship (synagogues and churches); leave them alone to what they devote themselves to."

When and why do you start Ramadhan on the day that you do?

Hummus —

To those of you who've began this blessed month of Ramadhan, then Ramadhan Mubarak to all of you and for those who are starting tonight, then im sure you're very excited! You might think this topic has already been discussed, but i'd like everyone, the old members and the newbies to share their opinions and thoughts about the day they begin Ramadhan. Once i've heard what you have to say, i'll share mine. So why exactly do you or your families or the mosque you follow, start Ramadhan on the day that you do? I can't wait to hear your responses, so do share them here.

Today I learnt... (Ramadhan)

TPOS —

Basically everyday you post one new thing you learnt. (or more)
It should short and simple to understand and no long copy and pastes.
If you've watched a really good vid then summarise it an post the link, if you've read an article summarise it and post the link or share a bit of it or something.
But try to put things in your own words. That should help reinforce the messages in your own mind, and not be off-putting to anyone who sees something long.

I think it's a good way to learn loads, really easily - if like 6 of us posted everyday we'd have lots of reminders and new info by the end of the month!
Also if you make it a goal to post something here, everyday, then you'll definitely make sure you try to make use of the day, and actually learn something, everyday. Right?!
Plus explaining stuff to someone else helps you remember better too.
Hope you're all in with me!
🙂

The Revival magazine- what do you REALLY think?

Sajid Iqbal —

salaam

with the new revival mag coming out in ramadan i thought its best to get some views on what ppl thought of the mag....

have people read it in the past?

do ppl read it on line?

what did you think of the earlier issues? and what about the last few?

it hasnt been printed for a year or 2 but before that have people seen it out and about?

what do you think works with the revival?

what needs improving?

do you think it tackles the real issue sfacing the youth?

Is it time to deal with more mature issues?

your views/feedback pls

Being a stranger.

LookingToSee —

The Prophet (peace be upon him) was reported to have said, “Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler.  When evening comes, do not expect to live until morning, and when morning comes, do not expect to live until evening.  Take from your health a preparation for your illness, and from your life for your death.”  [Al-Bukhari]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) was reported to have said, “Islam started and will return back as something strange; paradise is for the strangers.”

but..being a stranger is so hard...

Third Culture Kids

LookingToSee —

Ruth Van Reken:

“A third culture kid is a person who has spent a significant part of his or her developmental years outside their parents’ culture. The third culture kid builds relationships to all the cultures, while not having full ownership in any. Although elements from each culture are assimilated into the third culture kid’s life experience, the sense of belonging is in relationship to others of the same background, other TCKs.
