Pop Culture in the Name of Islam

It seem as though the classic na'at khwan and nasheed reciters are a dying breed. Everyone now seems to be using music which is a subject of dispute amongst the scholars.

I think the following article is highly relevant in this regard:

Pop Culture in the Name of Islam

I FEEL very uncomfortable about the pop culture which is growing around some so-called Nasheed artists. Of course I use the term 'Nasheed artists' very lightly. Islamic 'boy bands' and Muslim 'popsters' would probably be more appropriate.

Did Jesus Die? (Was just on on BBC4)

Salaam

While watching Prison Break, I was constantly flicking channels to BBC4 due to this programme. (If its available online, I will need to watch it fully...)

On to a number of claims. The three wise men? They were buddhists. APparently when a leader dies, they follow stars to find the reincarnated leader.

In childhood the child is taken away for teaching of the budhist ways.

Sikh Of Being Mistaken For A Muslim

Salaam

The “Don't freak, I'm a Sikh” stickers on backpacks and tee shirts are very common in London underground.

Such stickers make me smile however; this is quite a serious issue for the Sikh.

According to statistics Sikhs face more racist backlash that Muslims because of their turbans….its ironic because the turban in the UK is a sign of the Sikh identity and not the Muslim one…

Because of this reason some Sikhs have a serious problem with Muslims.

I’m Sorry…

Salaam

Saying sorry is hard on the soul….do you find it easy to apologise to those whom you have wronged?

OR are you one of them who can easily apologise first to outsiders but will bend in front of family?

And why is that? Why do we find it easy to say sorry to someone who we’ve accidentally not given way to on the Zebra crossing but find it hard to say sorry to your siblings?

Obviously, the underlying factor behind the inability to say sorry is pride…our Nafs does not like to bend.

Non - Muslims Funerals : To attend or Not?

Salaamz,

A non - muslim mate of mine lost their dad recently and as I am a close mate of theirs, they've asked me if i could go to the funeral with them for support.

My question is that are Muslims allowed to attend non - muslims funerals and if so then are there certain rules which need to be followed?

Please give any references to the hadiths or Qur'an if there are any, also can someone shed some light on the Islamic Funerals like the rules and regulations please, for future use.

Sky BNP vote - VOTE NOW!

salaam, Sky are doing a vote:

DO THE BNP HAVE A PLACE IN BRITISH SOCIETY?

Shockingly the answer 'yes' is winning by a considerable margin at the moment. Remember the BNP's prime targets are Muslims, they've even utilised sikh's to escalate Islamphobia. So please please go on the site and vote, it's on the right hand side:

Your Pants Are On Fire..

Salaam

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “Whatever of the lower garment is below the ankles is in the Fire.”

What exactly does that mean?

I don’t know much about this and I’ve never bothered to find out about it either …after all this ruling doesn’t effect me. But in a couple of months time I’ll be teaching younger boys Islamic Studies….so I thought I’d try to look up some “boyish” topics.

From what I’ve seen (with my gaze lowered :?

Straight Talking

We all know that the Jennifer Aniston hair cut is a must have for every girl. But how many girls here would consider permenant hair straightening? I'm tired of my using my GHD straightner every single morning. So what do you girls think of permenant hair straightening?

I can honestly, hand on heart, say it's the best beauty treatment I've ever had. Yes, it's expensive - prices start from £120, but long, particularly rebellious hair like mine would cost £380; yes, the long application process is quite literally a pain in the backside, but - boy - are the results worth it.
