do not worry, that will happen in time. (I will make a new theme with thpse colours).

(and my question was not which colour is the main colours, but what colour is the main colour? its not exactly gold... or orange... or brown... a bit of a mixture?)

Awrite now i know what you mean, you're right it cant be classified as "gold", "orange" or "brown" alone, it consists more of orange and gold which is fine as there is hardly any brown anyway. (I aint an artist so i may be wrong.)

Whats the revival e-group?

Back in BLACK

you get emails from the revival via yahoogroups.

Not really active atm.

ok I have finished it now.

Just waiting for approval.

No more changes.

I am sure 'Ed will hate it. (That is my mark of approval!)

But I will give him the courtesy of ranting about it before I push it onto the homepage.

There is some other stuff that can be done, but I want something to replace the current 'dead' homepage before i expreiment with other things that may take forever, or longer.

The new homepage stands out, focuses on important stuff, and looks good. Its vibrant. I left out alot of stuff to get somethign that looked good.

Its got a dedcent amound of colour clash: Just enopugh to be noticeable, and not enough to annoy. Perfect.

I have tested in Internet Explorer 6sp2, Firefox 1.5 and Opera 9(Technical Preview). Everything should work in all three (except one minor issue in opera which noone should really notice...)

If anyone notices anything which looks wrong, let me know.

I like it, though it took a minute or two to grow on me. If you're able to move one of the framed in areas with pictures in them a little higher - or just introduce some more graphics I think it will look better.

The oly place for pics I can see is inside the two main articles.

currently the topone has a small picture, and the bottom does not have one... but here the pictures will be by content.

I was advised to experiment with fonts for the list of articles on the right, but when experimenting last night, thereplacement fonts all looked terrible there, so I have stuck with what I had.

The website is beginning to grow on me.

But you still need to sort out that Times New Roman.

this is a good site with some free wordpress templates:
http://www.alexking.org/software/wordpress/theme_browser.php

ignore the above. sorry Admin, i've been tracking the development of the site, but feel i need release some air as it been frustrating watching the development of the site.

okay first of all try this:

- in ur stylesheet (test.css) use FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; FONT-SIZE: 80%; for all ur texts.
- since ur using fluid, change the percentage font size depending on how big u want it.
- the blue background fro ur article boxes use, D9D9FF, and have something darker for ur text.
- Also the mixture of CAPS only and normal text on ur article needs to be constant(stick to one convention) to give it a smooth flow,...
- you need to do something with the white space to the right of the revival logo banner
- this is a common one yet effective, on ur forum, make the revival logo point to ur main site, easier for users to click back to ur main page.
- Remove the Orange backgroung on ur article headings and alighn the text left.
- Multimedia box should be placed higher up
- search box could possibly be put in the space to the right of the revival logo
- personal thing, remove the word blog from ur news blog header (the word blog in my mind makes it sound amature)
- star trek font gotta go
- still reckon u should try and add a border around the page.. it shudnt be a problem with ur fluidity of the page as it shud expand with the rest of the content.
- ur current magazine issue shud be give a bit of significance by maybe having a box nearer the top,.

these are a few cosmetic changes i reckon u shud think about.. might take u about 5-10 eveings to sort out.

heres a bit of a brainstorm of additional stuff if u dont mind me posting..

the other thing which i reckon u shud get ur team involved in are the business objectives. i know its a non profit making site, but u gotta target ur end users. the bulk of ur visitors in my opinion are returning visitors,- most of the time they go straight to the forum - well i do anyway, there need to be a strategy of getting members to browse in and out, part of it ur already doing with discussing articles on forum, but i reckon u could do more.

the other types of users are gna be first time visitors who stumbled onto it. i think u need to give them something to grab their attention, some sites do it by the excellent design, others do it by catchy slogans. Articles are good, but the average first time visitor in my opinion aint gona be bothered into looking reading the article, thats why i reckon the multimedia should be nearer the top as its easy to watch video;s.

you used to have a recent forum topics box, bring that back.

breaking the users down even more, ur gonna have some that could be interested in distributing ur magazine, maybe an attractive link to get a copy of the magazine, pointing to a page which explains ur distribution procedure.

persoanlly mate i reckon u've done an excellent job so far. i reckon u need to get ur team involved in it more as its not fair that u gotta fit it all into ur spare time. i think the sites got great potential, although the forum is great, the site is kinda letting it down.

Good suggestions Khan.

Thne problem with the All-caps is it depends on who adds the stuff onto thesite. 'Ed has this fascination with capitals... I normally correct his mistakes, but in the last few weeks I ahve given up on that... probably need to start again.

I want to keep the bit next to the revival banner empty for the moment, as I want to explore a potential of advertising on the site. nothing concrete yet, but that is a prime location for advertising...

the colour D9D9FF seems to clash too much with the others... I will try using verdana on the testpage.

(I have other ideas for the homepae aswell, but I wanted to finish something that replaced the really poor old one first... I have done that, and now I need to refine everything...)

What does everyone think about having smaller text? I personally do not favour it... Si I will need to tryit out to see wether it works or not...

I have tried a few of your suggestions, and a few other things on the testpage. Nothing done consistently though, as I am trying to guage the ideas atm.

I have some time off work now, so I will see what i can do... Thanks for the tips.

I am getting the urge to change the site layout to something htat resembles the home page...

good idea or a waste of precious time?

what I envisage is on the left the article, and then on the right, in the place of the latest articles box, have a number of similar boxes: from the forums, news, and latest articles...

good idea or bad?

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

Bad idea.

As things stand the rest of the wesite is better than the homepage.

So... I take it you believe the homepage can be drastially improved?

I agree. almost.

But I do not know how!

The current homepage is pretty unique. now that can be a bad thing, or a good thing.

Can people post their honest opinions please:

1. When you see the homepage what is your first reaction?
2. What do you focus on?
3. What puts you off the page?
4. anything else?

afterall I need to know where to concentrate next. On the homepage, or on the forums, adding a similar template.

'Ed has finally make a decent point!

This weekend (if I get round to it) I will experimant in only showing half the number of latest articles as there are shown currently.

and in the gap left behind, have a similar section for the forums.

Its so simple yet so effective. Why did I not think of that? Tell me why? now!

then again, it may work out horribly...

once u have done these i have plenty of more ideas, if u are prepared to listen

is that the wind I hear?

(we can have 1001 things on the homepage... but it will overwhelm the visitors... the website is NOT one page that must have everything on it...)

I agree thats the only thing missing - forum section. Apart from that the page is fine.

The page I had as home does not look too bad:

http://www.therevival.co.uk/styletest.php

sadly that will never be. It was too radical, and too poorly constructed.

Apart from the 'justified' text effect of the newsblog titles looking a bit awry; the aesthetics of that page were kicking it.
However in terms of accesability and functionality, the actual homepage is better; but perhaps you could change the colour scheme seasonally and redo it every 1-2 years. Biggrin I think it would keep it fresh.

Hey I am an idea's guy. My implementation may not be too good atm, but the idea's are sound.

(and do not worry... I have a few idea's up my sleeve for an update to the homepage... just thinking them through...)
