The Revival Newsblog
Salaam
I am currently hacking away on a newsblog for the website.
http://www.therevival.co.uk/newsblog/
It should be ready now.
I have also added a page in the 'Rules/FAQ' section to discuss the Newsblog:
http://www.therevival.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1267
What has been done:
1. Wordpress has been given a template which looks almost identical the website.
2. The search on the left hand side, if used within the blog will search the blog instead of the whole site through google.
3. Commenting has been disabled.
4.The menu's do now work properly.
5. Add it onto homepage.
Current problems/TODO:
1. The blog has a separate login from the forums. I have looked into this alot, and it will probably be kept separate. will probably not do
2. Probably a whole lot more that I have not thought of yet.
Questions
1. Should comments be allowed? [current decision = no]
2. Any other features that are needed?
The blog is in working order now.

We need to start covering more areas in the blog?
is anyone here an expert on chechnya?
I have not seen coverage of it for aaages... I decided to look it up (as we have a caucasus region for news...), and came across this:
(not really suitable for newsblog...)

yeh  😛 i was gonna link the newsblog page itself, but i thought the intro to it on the homepage is cool (and as obvious as can be!!) and she didnt know wot a newsblog was, so it'd provide that explanation for her...

Ok I have made some changes to how the newsblog shows on the homepage.
I am also gonna add a few newsitems by category under the two news items that are visible atm.
So far I have :
Test Page
I cannot seem to have more than five of the categories there...

I have split the headline only items into two columns on the test page.
Feedback needed.

Admin, alot of text on the homepage has become 'bold'.
I might have had something to do with it.
Tell me it's not my fault. :?

I have fixed it.
(you had the bold tag, then more, then the end bold. So on the front page, the bold tag was there, but not the end bold... as that would only be seen after clicking more... technical stuff...)

I get ya.
I'll be more careful next time.

Its ok.
The software does have a few small problems.
One of them was shown there.
another is the fact that if the first post has small writing... it can make the following items' writing small aswell.
And I need to make the adding class to image automatic...

The NewsBlog has been going for a week now.
What do you think of it?
Has it become your one-stop-shop for news?
Dave Sun, 22 Jan 2006 - 23:47
The Revival Newsblog
not really... lol I still don't have much respect for blogs, never had

More importantly what do the contributers think?
Beast you have done the majority of the work...
I myself like it. Its not my onestop place.... but that is because while I do not read asmuch news as i used to, I still visit loads of sites.
(apart from techy stuff I used to go to bbc, guardian, googlenews cnn & the mirror daily...)
But I have spotted topics here that I have missed elsewhere.

I do not think the categories are working too well... all 15 posts on the front page of the newsblog are under the category 'Middle-east'!
Beast Thu, 26 Jan 2006 - 20:20
The Revival Newsblog
No they're not.
Have another look.

I was looking at the Middleast category page!
No wonder all the articles were about the middle-east!
