Muslim Unity-What Does It Mean To YOU?

I don’t know what type of high school you guys went to…but in my high school there were many cliques.

We had the “popular/pretty girls” we had the “Gangsters/Rude bwoys” we had the “geeks/nerd” we had the “arty farty” type, we had the “Coconuts” we had the “Freshies” and many more.

It just wasn’t the done thing for the “popular mean girls” to associate with the “nerds” and the “Coconuts” and “freshies” spent all their time making fun out of each other.

And depending on which group you were part what determined where you could sit at lunch, what you could wear and even what grades you could get in school…

It was incredibility important to “stick to your own” you couldn’t be seen with someone in a less socially acceptable group as yours….

The Muslim Ummah is the same…..we have our “groups” and spent a lot of or time dissing other groups and constructing barriers.

Personally, I have no reservations with associating with those who you may want to work with and/or just happen to share similar beliefs and ideologies…..however, problems arise when people begin to consider themselves more “superior” or “guided” then others…

The likes of Hadrat Abu Bakr (ra) wished that they were a blade of grass so they wouldnt have to go through accountability...so one cant help but marvel at our own high level of confidence...

When people talk of unity, this does not mean uniformity. It does not mean that we should look alike, eat alike, dress or think alike. It does not mean that we should not have any differences in opinions. This is diversity, not disunity.

Diversity is known as being a blessing whilst disunity is a curse.

There were differences of opinion in fiqh among the Companions, their followers, and great Mujahideen. But they did not turn these into fights. They disagreed but they maintained respect and love for each other. The brotherhood remained intact. They had tolerance for the other view.

We spent SO much of our precious time trying to prove people wrong and trying to show off how “guided” we may be…

Other then an ego boost I see little benefit in trying to prove how/why others are astray…

And even if our intensive “research” and “proof” does determine how/why others are astray and we are guided……will we receive a gold medal from above? Will it guarantee us a place in Paradise?

And what about if we’re wrong…does our extreme confidence or arrogance prevent us from thinking that maybe we can be wrong?

Anyway, I’m babbling here…and what I really wanted to ask was what does Muslim Unity mean to YOU?

Does it mean being “United” with your Muslim brothers and sisters when it suits you?

Does it mean picking and choosing who you wish to tolerate or not?

Does Muslim unity depend on the extent to which you think other Muslims are right?

Does it mean Unity in public but hatred and insults behind closed doors? Too many people spend their time banging on about Unity but its just a show….

Or is Muslim Unity is a myth…is it impossible to even speak to those whom YOU think are not “true Muslims”?

Will we ever get out of the 15year old high school mentality where we do nothing but bitch about how bad/stupid others are and how perfect we are?

So before saying who it was, provide islamic evidence that it was them. Otherwise maintain silence, it is advisable.

Does this 'silence' extend to condemnation of the attacks (regardless of who carried them out)?

MedYes true LilSis. Even if one side comes begging for unity, if the other refuses then nothing is gonna come of it. I give an example.

Hadrat Mawlana Haq Nawaz Jhangwi Shaheed was leader of Sipah E Sahaabah Pakistan. He went to the Peer Ahmad Nurani of the barelwis and begged him to join forces with himself to stop the publication of literature making tabarra on the Sahaabah Karaam. Hadrat Jhangwi Shaheed even offered to make Peer Nurani the Ameer of the movement, anything to stop the insults being written and publicised on Sahaabah.

Towards the end of the meeting Hadrat Jhangwi took his imaamah shareef off and laid it at the feet of Peer Nurani. This is the ultimate show of humility, and what was Peer Nurani's response? He kicked the imaamah shareef and told Hadrat Jhangwi to clear off.

So, basically both sides need to be willing.

as long as people blow out of proportion the reasons why we SHOULDNT unite and back up their point with lots of reasons and stories

and only focus on the differences and disagreements

highlighting how arrogant and proud they are and refuse to unite with fellow muslims

I have in the past already said that killing random people is wrong. I said it abt the madrid train bombings, abt the london bombings, abt the mosque bombings.

What u getting at irfan?

Do you condemn the sectarian violence in Pakistan (both Sunni-on-Shia and Shia-on-Sunni)?

For example, do you condemn the Bari Imam attack of 27 May 2005?

The Sipah-e-Pakis are a militant group who have been held responsible for sectarian violence.

Because innocents are killed.

I dont condemn the killing of targetting shi'tes priests and professionals.

I aint got anything to hide. If a shi'te is known to utter slander on Sahaabah Karaam then I support his extra-judicial killing.

No two ways abt it.

Medb4 making slander on the SSP, perhaps Irfan should learn something abt the history and purpose of SSP rather than being lazy and just relying on BBC reports.

Any1 lies, no matter how widely believed, dont change the truth and no matter how many ppl believe lies abt something doesnt make an iota of difference to the justness of some1s cause.

Med1. It includes all professionals who are known to propagate their apostasy and are in positions of power.

Is it just Shias who work in the services sector (ie lawyer) not the skilled sector (ie barber)?

Actually go and look at the early history of SSP in normal Paki newspapers, look at their early literature, their early speeches are recorded and widely available in birmingham if u knw where to look.

You do some legwork and then chat abt them.

I don't know where to get that stuff.

Point me in the right direction please.

BTW are you trying to say that SSP are not a violent group?

Med1. Yes more the skilled sector, more educated.

What if... say... a high-ranking politician had a Shia barber and religion came up in one of their conversations, would you then go and hunt down the barber and kill him?

Med2. Majlis Ul Ulama is not affiliated with SSP. Haq Char Yaar wesbite may be, but u wud have to contact the brothers there for clarification.

4. Right direction, check out some shops on coventry road, I think ur best bet is to buy some cassettes when they have islamic conference somewhere cos shops nowadays have taken the tapes off the shelves.

When who has conferences? SSP?

Which cassettes would you recommend? Any particular speakers I should look out for?

I am INSULTED.

How can you mistake the writings of Med for the cheap imitation product that is being pushed by LilSis. My words are much more elaborate and complicated, my use of english grammar unnecessarily long and intricate.

This cheap attempt at my style is truly a shambles and I am insulted to the core of my being that a person such as urself cud be soo fooled into mistaking that obvious fake post as being the real deal.

MedGenerally in summer there are loads of jalsahs going on in bham, atleast one a week, sometimes get upto 3/4 a week. Just attend those at various masaajid and see if they got cassettes on sale.
