Yeah it happen quite often when the agrument/discussion stop here. That was something good Med brought here a dfference of opinion, only if he could have discuss in a decent manner. But then again it could be down to teh fact certain members ain't posting as much :?

There will be no tribunal. Med offended Angel directly, he insulted somebody she admired and when she politely asked him to stop he intentionally flamed her, her scholar and anyone who followed her scholar.

She had left by this time and the Mod decided to ban Med.

When we suggested a ban was necessary but a permanent ban might have been a bit harsh in lieu of Med's positive contributions in the past, we agreed (I thought) that Angel should have the final say on the matter if she came back.

She's back, the decision is hers subject naturally to the review of the mods and I trust her judgement on the matter.

She doesn't, nobody told her when she got back.

Thus the reason I am suggesting we get down to business on the matter.

We do not usually ban - it's not something any of us are comfortable with and there is usually little to no need. Nor are we in the habit of temporary bans.

This is all new territory.

This is evidenced enough in our reluctance to ban even Zarqa - the forum's hinderence there proved more harmful than good.

Med is a different story though. He has been repeatedly warned for his offensive remarks against scholars, schools of thought, and people who follow those schools of thought. That is one thing - however his comments that day went above and beyond anything he did in the past, it was insulting merely to be hurtful.

However realizing that Med is not Zarqa many feel that Med 1) Has become a positive member of our community in many ways and 2) Can recognize his mistake and not repeat it. And therefore should be offered a chance to demonstrate he's learned his lesson - [i]subject[/i] to Angel's feelings on the matter, as she was most directly offended by Med's flamming.

The point is - all parties do not seem united on Med's permanent ban, and we had a loose agreement on the matter which would answer all of these concerns permanently.

I'm in favor for resolution 2- Zarqa comments where beyond decent speech. I hope Med can change his ways and realize by offending members has an adverse effect on him.

Surly the harmony of this forum means more then allowing provocateurs to cause strife in this forum.

Dave I wish you the very best with your fasting. I don't think fasting is as easy as some of these members are making out. when you're not fasting consecutively for a month you can forget just what it feels like to be without food for so long.

Some days are easier than others. Usually if you keep yourself occupied, and don't do too many strenuous activities you have a pretty good day. So keep busy.

I'm really impressed you eating halal aswell, that's a lot to ask of a non muslim, your mate maybe laughing, but i don't see the funny side of it :roll:

I haven't started yet as Lent is much longer and I am only going for 30 days, but i've been intermittently giving it a try just to warm up. It's difficult - especially the water part, I never really noticed how much water I drink in a day.

But i'm sure i'll manage smartly when the time comes.

As for Halal - not really that difficult for me since most of the bans seem to align nicely with my OCD, and alot is just obvious common sense.

Although I do miss bacon and eggs benedict

The damndest thing though - I can't figure a religious challenge for him. Most of the really physically difficult things a Christian is called to do, are ignored today - and have been ignored for several centuries. Ergo it wouldn't really be fair game.

I'm still going to win the basketball tournament though! Fasting or not, PEC always wins.

Although Hillel gave us a bit of a run last year...

He can't beat me in a debate, he can't beat me in basketball, he can't beat me in school - and he's not getting the better of me with a fast!

what type of ocd have you got dave. i used to have one. well doc never diagnosed it as such, coz he's one of them arrogant types. writes out a prescription before you even sit down, doesn't anaylse psychological things. anyways i swapped from his surgery finally!

But i did psychology, ive been reading about it, and i'm pretty sure that's what it was.

I obsess over germs and uncleanliness and compulsively wash my hands and take showers, I also compulsively balance things out and have to make sure everything is done perfectly.

It comes on and off - and drives everybody around me crazy, but it's part of the reason I pick things up quickly, especially manual tasks or things that require memorization.

Like flying for example - I would obsess (even when I wasn't flying) over making sure my flight pattern manuevres were perfect. So when I went for my checkflight I had everything within 5 feet and 1 KIAS.

And in school I really benefitted - especially with Law, I have whole cases memorized and I pretty much have the development of Substantive Due Process memorized.

So there are benefits - I don't really know what an alternate lifestyle would be like... I don't want to lose the obsessive behavior that drives me toward success and I have a perpetual fear that if I did someday I would just become a lazy blob.

But since I don't have much experience with normalacy that's probably just another baseless obsession.

...this can get paranoid after a while.

i used to wash my hands obssessively, but i never thght it was a problem. My hands became so badly dry, raw looking i eventually went docs admitting i had a problem. But my doc just gave me moisturiser? I could have wrung his neck. I was around 11/12 yrs old.

My parents used to watch me like a hawk listening out for running taps etc :roll: I finally stopped doing it.

But i think i still have a tendency to wash my hands more than the average person, so i suppose elements of it will always remain with me. i.e we have a swing bing in the kitchen if the lid touches my hand when i dispose of something i'll wash my hands. Husband says i'm nuts. Well i can't start preparing food, or touching my face, God knows what germs are on me...i'm sounding loopy aren;t i lol

bathroom- if i enter to just open the window in the bathroom i'll deffo wash my hands i can give you a list of when i'd wash my hands and a so called normal (person i.e not me lol)wouldn't.

When i got to my mothers my brothers are sometimes watching dvds, and i remember some movie jack nicholson was in, he had ocd, but his was with everything, it was pretty severe. I didn't like the way they made him appear like a mad man. He wasn't mad, he clearly had a condition that ppl were failing to sympathise with. But then again he was also so cold hearted and blunt, gotta love him lol

Ohh man yea you definitely were OCD then. They used to think that the crackly hands was caused by rubbing the skin off - it wasn't, the problem was that you rub the oil off of your skin and then the various chemicals in the soap further irritate the skin. It's very painful in winter.

lol I got the moisturizer too - just makes it worse.

It sounds like you've really beat it though - a few weirdnesses like washing your hands when you enter a bathroom aren't so bad (clean if anything).

In cooking i'm fussy. I tend to wash my hands a lot, but that's to avoid cross contamination between meat, and veg. if i touch the meat i wash my hands before i touch the veg. i use separate boards for cutting meat and veg nothing wrong with that is there?

Husband just said he's gona watch me write down how many times i wash my hands this weekend great i got the bearded cop on my case lol. He just told me i got purple latex gloves for you, wear them when you're cooking no need to wash your hands umpteen times. i don't wana wear purple gloves. if i have unexpected guests they'll think im barney-barmey?

Like for me everything has to be organized at right angles - like I have my remote right now on my desk - it's rectangular - so is the desk. So I lined it up with the desk.

If I don't it drives me CRAZY, I can't think about anything else other than organizing it.

Did any1 here do a dissertation? I knw beast is doin it, howz it comin along? I hav 2 decide by monday if im gona do it or not. My only concern is that i dnt trust myself to do it throughout the year... Last min job wud mean shady marks, and i knw so many ppl who leave dissertations 2 last minute

lol i'm not crazy! Lots of people are OCD... and while checking your phone every two seconds is compulsive behavior it's not OCD until you have an obsession associated with it.

Now if you checked your phone every 2 seconds because you think you are afraid you missed a phone call - for the last 14 years then you probably would be OCD.

And if you checked your phone call every 2 seconds because you think that if you don't the Kashistis will detonate a small microchip implanted in your head then you're probably just crazy.

These dissertations sound a lot like the senior project I have to do - it's very difficult to stay on task, I only have 30 pages done and less than 2 months to complete it.
