Music

As far as I know certain music is not haram .
Music which is about happiness, love and some which praise Allah and Prophet Muhammad are not haram.

However music by artists such as hip hop or rock that talk about sex, drugs, dirty dancing etc are haram (e.g Eminem, Ice Cube, Britney Spears etc etc...)

Sheikh Tahir Ul Qadir has a video of this as does Sheikh Yaqcoubi which basically mention my above point.

There is a middle between the two "extremes" too - music that may not be spiritual, but at the same time is not encouraging or promoting haraam.

Yes which is why I mentioned music about love and happiness.For example, you get them shaadi songs about mehndi and stuff like that ...(just an example, I know its a lame one)

I know that alot of wedding nasheeds and stuff have music in them but that doesn't
necessarily make them halal to listen just becuase they are about love and happiness, does it? :doubt:

the general rule is that for something to be haraam, it has to be made haraam.

So, if there is nothing in there making it haraam, its not haraam.

Now that does not mean that is becomes something you must do, but its simply not haraam/banned without there being some reason/evidence for it.

But there is...the music... and that makes it haraam, right?

Besides, different scholars regard different things as halaal and haraam, so whos' opinion do you take?

Not all nasheeds have music in them which means they are not all haraam.
Anyway, I guess everyone has to decide for themselves between what's right and wrong.
Musc nasheeds can be addicting however... :oops:

Which is why people dislike Sami Yusaf so much.

Well, if you're like me, then all music is banned and you don't listen to anything like that (besides Sami Yusuf and Maher Zain; I think I've mentioned this before on a different thread..).
But, then Nabi Daw'ud wa/selam aley was given a flute.

But, it was written in the Psalms, which is accurate, according to Qur'an al-Kareem.

Hmm, I guess that goes for some of them, but others such as Dawud wharnsby ali knew it was wrong, and thats why intially he started off without music and duff only...but then.. he got carried away and now he's 'rockin' away! 😛

It's everyones own reponsibility to find out what's right and wrong after all....
