My honest feeling at the time was that they deserved it, and as far as I am concerned that is still how I feel today.

People never look back to what led up to it - Pearl Harbour, Nanking - and there are no innocent civilians in war, everyone is doing something, contributing to the war effort, building bombs.

That is wrong.

Targeting politicians, soldiers, spies, ect. then maybe but innocent civilians is totally wrong.

I don't know if this is a good example, but what if someone bombed a US city and later said that they deserved it for going into Iraq, as the ordinary citizens of the US are helping to build bombs and make ammunitions to be used in Iraq.

Atom bomb row minister apologises

Japan's defence minister has apologised for saying the US atom bomb attacks in World War II were inevitable.

Fumio Kyuma's comments had outraged bomb survivors and sparked calls from opposition parties for his dismissal.

The minister said he was sorry if he had given the impression he lacked respect for the victims of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Speaking in Nagasaki, where he is from, Mr Kyuma promised not to make such remarks in the future.

He had said in a speech at a university that the bombing appeared to be "something that couldn't be helped".

Pearl Harbour was an attack on a military base. Where as the nuclear bombs were indiscriminate. There is no justification for them. Period.
