Make a Wish: What do you wish for?

CA TEAM —

I put this question to my esteemed mentor Shaikh Mohammed Daniel and he replied thus:

"This sounds to me to be the story in which Sayyidina Abdullah Ibn Umar ibn Khattab(RA) the great Sahabi and erudite scholar of this Ummah, showed his extreme sagacity in the company of three of the tabi'een.

Musab Ibn Zubair ibnul Awwam (RA), Urwah ibn Zubair ibnul Awwam (RA) and Abdul Malik ibn Marwan were gathered one day with Sayyidna Abdullah ibn Umar ibn Khattab(RA)

Musab ibn Zubair said; As we are next to the Kaa'ba let us all make a wish (ta manuw) and Allah may accept our wish through the blessing of this gathering and your responding with 'Ameen'

So they said to him, as you have suggested this, why don't you start by making your wish first.

So Musab ibn Zubair said, "I wish to have the wilayah (governorship) of Iraq and marry both Sukainah bint Husain (RA) and Aisha bint Talha ibn UbaydUllah (RA).

Then came the turn of Abdul Malik ibn Marwan and he said, "I wish to become the Khalifah of Muslims one day"

Then came the turn of Urwah ibn Zubair who said, "I want to be a leading Faqih and that people come to me seeking knowledge"

Then came the turn of Abdullah Ibn Umar (RA) who said, "As for me, my wish is only for Jannah"

Each of them lived to see their wish come true. As for Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) then inshAllah his wish will also come true in the hereafter.

It has a weak chain of narration, however there are many lessons to be learnt from it.

Minimum alcohol price planned for England and Wales

lollywood —

The government is proposing a minimum price of 40p per unit of alcohol in England and Wales in an effort to "turn the tide" against binge drinking.

It believes this could transform the behaviour of those who cause the most problems for hospitals and police

The industry said a minimum price was misguided and would hit consumers hard

Under the minimum price proposal, such as at the suggested 40p level, it would act as a floor and retailers would not be allowed to offer alcohol cheaper than that.

  • A £2.99 bottle of red wine, containing 9.4 units of alcohol, would be priced up to £3.76
  • Cheap, strong lager at 75p a can, with three units per can, would become at least £1.20
  • Bulk-bought strong cider, costing 87p a can and containing four units, would almost double to at least £1.60
  • Cheap supermarket whisky at £16.10, with 40 units of alcohol, would probably be unchanged in price

Inequalities

Aleena95 —

I don't understand why some muslim men treat their women with little respect, when in the Quran it states that men and women should both be treated equally. In theory I think that the Muslim religion itself is good, but maybe the Muslim people are interpreting their own religion wrong?
This muslim man on tv said; 'Our men are like gold, if you drop gold in mud, you can easily clean it, our women on the otherhand are like silk, if you drop silk in mud then you can clean it but the stains will still show'.
- This doesnt sound like the men think of their women as equal people.

Please give me your feedback and opinions on this 🙂

Doctors 'should have the right to KILL unwanted or disabled babies at birth

lollywood —

Doctors 'should have the right to KILL unwanted or disabled babies at birth as they are not a real person' claims former Oxford academic

Doctors should have the right to kill newborn babies because they are disabled, too expensive or simply unwanted by their mothers, an academic with links to Oxford University has claimed.

The piece argues that, though the child may be happy, it will not reach the potential of a normal child.

‘To bring up such children might be an unbearable burden on the family and on society as a whole’

MAKE BRADFORD BRITISH

Sajid Iqbal —

Make Bradford British, Channel 4, preview
Channel 4's latest social experiment attempts to answer what it means to be British, says Andrew Marszal

‘When’s the last time you’ve come out in a miniskirt and a low-cut top?” asks a large, menacing man in a bomber jacket, sipping on his pint in a Bradford inner-city pub. It’s benefits day, and the Boy and Barrel is crowded with regulars. The girl he’s talking to says that she simply doesn’t want to. “That’s wrong that… Have you even tried a miniskirt?” Another patron chimes in: “I think you’d look bloody lovely in a miniskirt.” A woman at the bar says: “If you want to be here, dress like us.”

The target of this encounter, captured in Channel 4’s two-part series Make Bradford British, is Sabbiyah, a 23-year-old British Muslim, wearing traditional Asian dress. The encounter ends with the leering inquisitor stroking the girl’s leg, before leaving her to sob in the corner. I ask her later what she felt during the ordeal: “I think it was disgust, to be honest. I was disgusted that I was made to feel like absolute s---.”

“It’s the first time in my life I didn’t feel like I belonged in Bradford,” she says. “And at the same time I felt so belittled. It was like you’ve got to wear a miniskirt before you’re recognised as anything other than a foreigner.”

Though presumably few would subscribe to that particular definition, what it means to be British is a question that has long confounded politicians, academics and, more recently, Scots, so we perhaps shouldn’t expect too much by way of authoritative closure on the matter from a Channel 4 reality show. But Make Bradford British, which begins on Thursday, has a laudable go at elucidating some of the issues. The programme asks whether a diverse group of Bradfordians, who have all failed the Government’s notoriously difficult “Citizenship Test”, and who normally live in wary isolation across one of Britain’s most segregated cities, can put their racial prejudices aside if forced to meaningfully interact with one another.

It begins by putting the eight participants into a house together where their every argument is recorded on camera – think Big Brother with a zany new social engineering makeover. But it really gets going in the second episode, which hijacks another Channel 4 format as the participants are grouped into pairs who take turns living in each other’s homes, Wife Swap-style. Sabbiyah’s partner is the pub’s black landlady Audrey, who struggles to curb her use of terms such as “paki” and “nigger”, in which she doesn’t seem to see anything wrong, despite having been a victim of racism herself.

Conservative Muslim patriarch Mohammed is put together with white 66-year-old feminist Maura in perhaps the most feisty combination. Arguments escalate after Maura asks Mohammed to lay the table, and in the end he storms off the show. “It was quite difficult being in that house,” she tells me after filming has ended. “His wife spends most of her day in the basement kitchen and doesn’t speak any English. He might feel fully integrated into Britain, but she certainly isn’t.”

Elsewhere, black former racist attack victim Desmond must learn to get along with Union Jack-wielding ex-cop Jens – whose philosophy on bigotry extends to, “If I really thought you were a black bastard, would I say it?”. And finally there’s white manual labourer Damon, who finds himself joining devout Muslim Rashid on his five daily mosque visits. Damon is moved and surprised by the warm welcome he gets inside the mosque. “Mosques and that, f--- it, I thought they were like terrorist centres,” he tells a group of bewildered worshippers afterwards.

The experiment is orchestrated by “diversity experts” Taiba Yasseen and Laurie Trott, who are rather irritatingly satisfied with their conclusion that being British is all about “shared values”. Though we never learn exactly what these might be, the programme’s most valuable contribution is to show that, much as we may all enjoy a moan about the weather, what we have in common counts for nothing if people are too distrustful to talk to one another in the first place. It is genuinely fascinating to watch as the initially standoffish participants begin to bond.

Of course, there’s only so far a reality show can go. Aren’t there people out there who simply can’t see past their prejudices? For Sabbiyah, her disturbing pub experience was the first time she’d ever experienced such overt racism. She tells me how she had deliberately set out to highlight the misconceptions held about her faith, particularly its female members: “In a funny way I provoked that attack – I went into that pub wearing my traditional clothing, because I wanted to see the reaction.”

Despite the way it turned out, she’s adamant that her approach was the right one. “I know why I did it – I wanted to show that we’re normal, we’ve got the same concerns as anyone else. Any criticism that I get makes me more defiant.” And if we’re looking for typically British values, a stiff upper lip can’t be a bad place to start.

'Make Bradford British' begins on Thursday 1 March at 9.00pm on Channel 4

What do we do when confronted with this?!!

The Seeker —

Hello

I recently came across this clip:

[video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5rK1D2FGE4]

I got it from the BNP Facebook group which is pretty insane. What really got to me was that you hear about people spreading Islamaphobia and the Ummah being portrayed in such a bad light (due to stupid and ignorant people accepting rubbish) but not actually realising how powerful it was. After actually watching the clip and seeing how powerful it is I realised that people who went muslims and don't know any muslims will fall into the trap of hating us and that people need to start being educated and the points that they have argued in this clip need to be countered with backed up facts and credible sources. I thought by putting it up here it would:

a) make other people who didn't realise that Islamaphobia and extreme hatred is that bad realise that it is ,
b) generate some counter arguments to the points made on the clip,
c) show that by declaring that you are a muslim you must behave like a muslims and not promote extremism and hatred as that gives groups against us reasons to hate us.

Sorry for the essay but please give your thoughts as so many young muslims like myself don't know what to say to most of these points...

Abortion: Gender claims probed by Department of Health

lollywood —

The Department of Health has launched an inquiry into claims that doctors agreed to carry out abortions on the grounds of the sex of unborn babies.

The Daily Telegraph said it had secretly filmed doctors at a number of British abortion clinics.

The doctors are said to have agreed to terminate foetuses when women did not want their baby because of its gender.

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said sex selection was "illegal and morally wrong" and he had ordered an inquiry
