Your favourite Quranic passage

RI_RS —

SBF and I were just talking about this,

Hers are Surah Yasin and Surah Ar-Rahman, which I just checked out and its really scary yet poetic.

My favourite is Surat an-Nur (if that's right):

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.

The parable of His Light is a niche wherein is a lamp—

the lamp is in a glass, the glass as it were a glittering star—

lit from a blessed olive tree,

neither eastern nor western,

whose oil almost lights up,

though fire should not touch it.

Light upon light.

Allah guides to His Light whomever He wishes.

Allah draws parables for mankind,

and Allah has knowledge of all things.

I love it because it's so sharp and beautiful and soft, and yet it's strong and very meaningful. To me it says that Allah has so much power and significance that we might get a little glance of, but if Allah does not wish to guide you to his light, then you're nothing, and maybe nothing you ever do will be good enough.

Anyway, what's your favourite Quranic passage and why?

How do you truly argue something with conviction?

s.b.f —

Say for example someone says to you,

'So, around the time when the Muhammed ﷺ had the revelation of the Qu'ran sent to him, how do you truly know that it is the word of Allah (swt) and not because ideas of those certain facts mentioned in Qu'ran (that are always shown to be correct against the science now) are not ideas that people had at the time?'

That was very wordy. I apologise. But my eyes are tired.

Life of Pi, what did you think of it?

Hummus —

Pi, the son of an Indian zookeeper, decides to hitch a ride to Canada with a shipment of animals but when the ship goes down he’s forced to share the only lifeboat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger. With hundreds of days stretching before them, they need to learn to trust each other if they are going to survive. Life of Pi is a lavish coming-of-age story with heart and spirit.

Who in History would you like to meet?

LookingToSee —

I was going to create this topic about the companions of the prophet sallAllahu'alaihiwassalaam.

who from the companions would you really like to meet in Jannah inshaaAllah?

I really want to meet Ibn 'Umar and Anas ibn Malik. mainly because they were "youth" during the time of the prophet sallAllahu'alaihiwassalam and I read all these hadith reported by them as well. I would just love to get to know them and meet them!

this topic can also be used to talk about anybody else in History you'd like to meet. but thing is, with the sahabas radhiyAllahu'anhum, if we work hard enough, inshaaaAllah we WILL be able to meet them.

(i wrote all this yesterday but forgot to create the topic)

now theres someone else i'd like to meet! Mu'aath Ibn Jabal! because he was the first missionary and he was a youth as well.

Anger Management

Seraphim —

"The strong are not wrestlers or bodybuilder. The strong are those who can hold back their anger."

Over the course of the last year ive noticed im becoming an angry person. There have been times where i've been absolutely furious with someone. This often leads me to raise my voice and becoming argumentative. Even confrontational where i wont stop till ive had my say or decimated someone.

I dont like doing this. I dont like raising my voice. I dont like saying anything unkind. I dont like going all Bruce Banner on anyone (SEPHY SMASH!!).

Firstly, let me just say in not normally an angry person. And i dont go around randomly getting angry at people. Im usually a very mellow kinda guy. It usually takes a lot to grind my gears. I dont know if its because of the amount of crap thats happened over the course of the last year and I've just reacted to that.

My normal method for everyday sh*t is to simply close my eyes, take a deep breath and take an objective view of things. Then make a decision. The deep breath in and out is important.

But sometimes thats not enough. Theres only soo much you can absorb without it affecting you. As destructive as it is, at times its necessary to get angry rather than to stay passive in order to bring about a change. Apathy will simply leave things the way they are and that seems to be the problem. The way things are.

I know Islam teaches that its not a good thing to be angry. But sometimes its appropriate. Not saying its a good thing to shout and scream (or hit) anyone. I definately dont think blind fury is a good thing. Can anger be constructive??

The weird and wonderful ways we eat food

LookingToSee —

There are many foods in this world and most of us have done some strange combination, some weird mix and match for various reasons; sometimes it's because that's all there was at home left, sometimes its because you were cooking with the lights off, other times it cld have been because it looked nice together!

whatever your reasons, wld you like to share those weird and wonderful foods you've created?

i'll start with a couple.

pasta, fish fingers and ketchup. mash up the fishfingers, sauce up ketchup and there you go! totally unhealthy, totally delish! in recent times we've taken to putting half ketchup, half mayo. i went to a friend's house and she'd done something similar, except there wasnt fish fingers, there was sweet potato and eggs and carrots i think.

numero due! laddoo with....BAGUETTE!! yes, yes, you have read this correctly. spread the laddoo like any other spreadable across the inside  of some baguette and dig in! the original recipe has a preliminary layer of butter. but that wld just be too  unhealthy *shakes head*

so please share those weird and wonderfuls!
