Do some women encourage sexual harassment via their clothing?

Hajjar —

A police officer in toronto was giving a talk to students about how to avoid harassment,he said: "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized."
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2011/04/03/slut-walk-toront…

This sparked anger as you can imagine, it led to a student "slut walk" in protest. What sane person would join a slut walk anyway? eugh!

So do you think women should accept that they are "responsible" for the way they dress, and the reaction it will cause when they go out during the day or evening.?

Is it justifiable for women to say well you can get attacked whether you're old or young, dressed conservatively or skimpy?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think every individual is responsible for the way they dress and carry themselves in public and private, regardless of gender. But as this topic relates to the safety of women in the public domain, then i would say dress does matter. It goes without saying that a woman who dresses in a short skirt, and shows off her cleavage will invite unsavory attention from men, whereas women who are dressed more conservatively are "less" likely to get that sort of attention.

Opportunist rapists who see such girls are more likely to prey on them. But the mental cases will pray on any woman whether she is fully clad or not, and age wont be a barrier to them. To avoid the opportunists isn't it wise to dress a bit more conservatively?

I also dont get this idea that feminists are always chanting its a free society we should be allowed to wear whatever we want.We wear short skirts and low tops to feel good for ourselves not for men. That has got to be the biggest lie they tell themselves. i mean what woman sheds her clothes so that she can see her own flesh? Doesnt she see enough of her own flesh on a daily basis?

Now i'm not saying rapists arent responsible, they are criminals and are entirely responsible for the crime they commit. But at the same time if women are going out especially at night they should think about what attire they are choosing, what are their intentions for wearing it. Is it to attract the opposite gender, if so "bare" in mind that it may attract the sick perverts of society also, not just the "nice men"

Visiting The Sick

Foysol89 —

I have a question to ask. Does anyone know of any particular dua or surah to recite when visiting someone who is really ill?

I was just visiting my cousins grandad(not first cousin) who was diagnosed with cancer a while back and is now in critical situation. It was kinda scary watching him just lay there in his sleep and just keeping one eye on heart beat monitor.

It really brings you back to reality and makes you realize how temporary this life is and that we could die any minute.

The hardest thing is watching the relatives. You don't know what to say so everyone's just there in silence. Everyones emotions are really high at this moment yet you wanna remind them that this is all a test.

Alhamdulillah some people are reciting quran to him and even people who don't usually pray salat are doing so.

Jack the Ripper aka Muslimeen aka zdc

Jack the Ripper —

Yes this is the reality. I guess many of you probably think I am some kind of a wacko, maybe I am, but hey try living a day in my life. Not much fun I assure you.

Anyway I just wanna say sorry for all the problems I caused on the forum. It was wrong, I admit. I must say I have come to love Revvy, though the spammers are making me go GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I am trying to break away but I must be honest it is very tuff on me. I know I'll probably get wacked by admin for this, maybe all my accounts will be shut and my IP address blocked. Hey maybe it's just what I need to break away from revvy. It will be missed. No other forum allowed me the freedom to speak like revvy though the editor nearly kicked me off, but that was my fault I was pushing it just a little bit, ok maybe a lot. On most other forums I would have been history on day one...

Revival has allowed me to open up, speak what I wanted, ask what I wanted, be whoever I was, it allowed the evil side of me (Jack the Ripper) and the good side (Muslimeen) flourish. When I spoke good as Muslimeen people would listen cos he didn't have the tarnished reputation that Jack had. Jack could be more bold and ask anything without fear of reprisal.

So why am I leaving right??

I don't know, maybe because I have transgressed the limits as Jack the Ripper. My friends are upset and demand answers, answers which I feel I cannot give. Maybe cos I feel I am commiting sin, I tend to be flirtatious as Jack I break every rule in the book. Whatever it is it can't be good. So I made the decision.

Anyway I am sure you guys are about bored now and are probably thinking "If you wanna get out, I ain't holding your hand" well your right, my stop is here. Good bye fellow revivalers have a good one and remember this wacko in your prayers.

Usamah Bin Laden: Freedom Fighter or Terrorist?

Death of Usamah Bin Laden: Freedom Fighter or Terrorist?

The reaction says it all, there is celebration in the streets of New York, whilst silence in the streets of the Islamic world; freedom fighter or terrorist depends on whose perspective. There is no doubt many in the Islamic world and the non-Islamic world (e.g. Latin America), are privately mourning the death of Usamah Bin Laden, seen as a symbol of resistance to Western imperialism. Unlike Saddam Hussein and his ilk, Usamah Bin Laden died fighting like a Mujahid, as the old proverb says, he who lives by the sword, dies by the sword.

It is disgusting the way the media constantly highlights the 3000 that perished in 9/11, as if the American and western lives are more valuable than others. The message construed is simple, its Bin Laden and 9/11, there are no other casualties and no other factors. Indeed, the entire narrative is false. They say 9/11 marks the beginning of the conflict, whereas the conflict started from the end of the First World War; the Arabs seeking independence were betrayed (Sykes-Picot treaty) for their support to the Allied forces. Their lands were carved up to suit the interests of the colonialists, who facilitated the migration of the Zionists to Palestine, paving the way for the creation of Israel. Eventually, the Arabs were ‘rewarded’ with Israel and the Palestinian Diaspora (nakba), for their cooperation and service to the colonialists.

What is even more absurd about the simple narrative of Bin Laden and 9/11 is that America is portrayed as the victim. Just the thought makes you laugh, it’s like you have to imagine the US Soldiers dressed as benign priests, rather than killing Iraqis for fun, as the numerous clips leaked on the internet with the awful images of Abu-Ghraib confirms!

Prior to 9/11, 500,000 Iraqi children were killed through barbaric sanctions, and post 9/11 almost a million innocent Iraqis died for those mythical WMDs! To date, nobody has been bought to account for the illegal war built on lies. The losses of innocence are conveniently classed as collateral damage that can be swept under the carpet like dirt! Has anyone been bought to trial for the carnage in Gaza, when the Israelis unleashed disproportionate force on the civilian population, a clear act of state-terrorism?

It is simplistic to call Usamah Bin Laden a terrorist, when his opponent has murdered much more civilians in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan, that pre-dates 9/11. Likewise, to call Usamah a religious fanatic is hypocritical, when George Bush is the one claimed to be talking to God who allegedly inspired him to launch the war on the innocent people of Iraq. It is ironic that the Christian God of ‘love’ would order one to wage to war, rather than to turn the other cheek!

Regardless if you agree with the methods used by Usamah and his men, as an individual he outdid his opponents. He was far more eloquent than George Bush, a semi-literate guy with a drink problem, who often embarrassed the US by his numerous idiotic statements. Usamah also had far more integrity than Tony Blair, unlike Blair he never lied and was generous with his wealth, constantly helping the needy, Jason Burke elaborates on this in his book, Al-Qaeda. Whereas it took a lot of media pressure for Tony Blair (who did so well out of the Iraq war), to make some nominal contribution to the British soldiers who suffered losses.

The most important question is – did Usamah succeed to any level or was he a total failure. This depends on how you define success and failure, but we can avoid the debate, by looking at his main objectives. First was to create the Arabic Nahda (revival), this never materialised; despite the war waged over Iraq and the revelations of the gruesome events of Abu-Ghraib, the masses in the Arab/Islamic world did not revolt. In fact, the only uprisings we have seen are the recent revolutions sweeping through the Arab world, where the call is unanimous for a democratic government that is free from corruption and nepotism. The masses want secular freedom and democracy, rather than a Caliphate or an Islamic Emirate, they are no longer burning the American flags and chanting anti-Western slogans, they have come to realise that they need to take responsibility and clean their homes.

Secondly, Usamah failed to topple a single regime in the Arab/Islamic world. This is largely because he misread the situation, whilst many sympathise with his grievances, but do not support the creation of an Islamic State or an Islamic Emirate. It means one has to engage the masses in the Arab world politically to make the case for an Islamic State, how such a state can overcome the numerous issues that divide the Arab and Islamic world, and bring about unity. Thus, instead of waging wars on the West, they should have focused on building a stable prosperous Afghanistan based on the Sharia model that could act as a shining example. They could have shown how the various tribes of Afghanistan unified, overcoming their historical animosity; this would have had greater resonance in the Arab and Islamic world. However, the Taliban remained largely Pashtun based, and the Arabs remained as their guests, despite professing unity based on the Islamic laws and values.

ALL EYES ON PAKISTAN

Sajid Iqbal —

Salaam

So all blame seems to be put on Pakistan after the killing of Ladin.

If we accept Bin Ladin is dead and its no conspiracy then we have to ask the following questions:

How can Ladin live in pakistan for 5 or so years without being noticed?

Was Pakistan army/secret service protecting him? If so , why?

Will Paksitan be used as the scapegoat?

Will Pakistan now be referred to as a safe-haven for terrorists?

How will all this affect Pakistan?

Shopuld Pakistan cut all ties with the U.S?

Wasalaam
