Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri for redefining "Terrorism"

Contributor —

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri, Chairman Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and a leading Pakistani politician has underlined the need for re-defining the word 'terrorism' to broaden its scope.

He was addressing the participants of a seminar on the theme of "Terrorism and World Peace" held in connection with Solidarity Day organised by the Social Welfare and Human Rights wing of PAT here on Thursday.

While condemning terrorism, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri suggested the formation of a world body under the UN to re-define its orbit, saying, state terrorism in any part of the world should also be considered an act of terrorism. He harshly criticised India and Israel for killing innocent people in their jurisdictions.

London Bombings; Muslim leaders join condemnation

Contributor —

Muslim leaders have condemned the attacks on London and said they fear their communities could now fall prey to vigilante attacks.

Muslim Association of Britain president Ahmed Sheikh said the attacks would make the Muslim community less safe.

He said women in headscarves might be in particular danger and warned all Muslims to be especially vigilant.

Muslim News editor Ahmed Versi noted one of London's biggest Muslim areas, around Aldgate, had been targeted.

Mr Sheikh said the unique good relationship Muslims had with the government and society was threatened.

"The person who did this was targeting along with wider British society the Muslim community, ruining the good relationship we have."

Jihad: Its True Meaning and Purpose

In the light of what is going on nowadays, i.e. the so-called war against terrorism, I think you Ulama need to write something on the true concept of Jihad in Islam, i.e., the way Islam reacts to such issue, for them to see the difference.

Does the Quran Teach Violence?

Contributor —

I hope you scholars will help me get rid of these confusions I have been having since the Sept 11 incident, especially as regards some Qur’anic verses. These verses totally contradict what Muslims say that their religion calls for peace and denounces violence. Mind you, though not a Muslim, but I don’t hate Muslims.

I just need shedding light on some issues. How would you interpret a verse like this (And slay them wherever ye catch them…)? (Al-Baqarah 2: 191) and (…But if they turn away, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks) (An-Nisaa' 4: 89) I will really appreciate your quick reply.

Berlusconi stirs controversy with anti-Islam remarks

Contributor —

ROME, Sept 27 (AFP) - Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi faced a storm of controversy Thursday after some undiplomatic remarks suggesting that Christianity was superior to Islam.

The political opposition and the press laid into the conservative leader for remarks which were, at the very least, ill-judged at a time when the West was trying to rally the Muslim world to join its fight against terrorism.

Even Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel, leading an EU mission to the Middle East, on Thursday denounced Berlusconi's reported remarks as "not acceptable" and "not in line with European decisions and European values."
