"...Muslims brothers and fathers rape their sisters and daughters if they do not wear Hijab!!.."

Contributor —

Toby Young on Question Time Thursday 12th February 2004.

This ridiculous statement was made by Toby Young, writer, broadcaster (and expert on Muslims and Islam - NOT!!!) on the last edition of Question Time aired 12 February from Portsmouth. One of the subjects discussed was the French banning of religious symbols in school, during this discussion Toby Young made this defamatory and disgusting statement. Unsurprisingly there were no Muslims in the audience to speak up for themselves.

I want to ask all the Muslim brothers and fathers who heard/saw this to think about the gravity of this accusation, you are being accused of raping/committing incest with your own sisters and daughters. Not to mention being cruel, authoritarian and forcing your will and yourself on those you are meant to protect. No doubt many will believe this slander after all the French government has continuously defended the hijab ban by arguing that Muslim girls are forced to wear it by their fathers and brothers. Unfortunately many French Muslims agree, both points are frequently repeated in any news report on this issue.

Why don't you stick up for yourself??

Defend your brothers and fathers and your right to obey a Quranic injunction. Write in to the BBC and tell them we wear the hijab because God commands it in the Quran and because we want to, it is not purely voluntary, a symbol of repression/sexual subjugation, simply aesthetic or a misinterpretation of the text….

Mashallah, some Muslims have already made their comments heard on the Question Time website. Please do the same.
