Getting involved

I know I still need to do more studying, but I can't start until my wife finishes. If we're both studying at the same time there will be no one to do the chores.

So while I'm not studying, and when I've finished the chores I have some spare time.

I spend some of it with my children. Reading, playing, shouting etc etc...

Then I still have some time left over.

What can I do with this time?

I want to get involved in a project. Something that'll help the community. Help the needy etc etc.

Something that my son cah help with on weekends too, and then in a couple of years my daughter can get involved too. (but only if they want to)

But what? What can I do?

I know you can't just wake up one morning and decide "I'm going to be passionate about X Y or Z"

I'm not passionate enough about anything to start up something of my own, and I've never really been involved in anything before. So don't know what to do.

Some charity/fundraising work for your local charity?

#Before you look at the thorns of the rose , look at it's beauty. Before you complain about the heat of the sun , enjoy it's light. Before you complain about the blackness of the night, think of it's peace and quiet... #

Help out at a local care home, you'll be surprised by how much they appreciate your visit.

Start a collection of .... something.... toy cars, train sets, paintings ... or if you want you could even become a Steampunk.

Just don't become a serious hoarder Smile

I'm going to work in a Call Centre during Ramadan. Taking peoples card payments over the phone and advising them what amount of Qurbani meat they need to buy.

And longer term, i've applied for a sorting job in a warehouse for a local brance of BHF. They haven't got back to me yet, but I hope they accept me. It will be good I think (I hope)

MashaAllah, the call centre job seems rewarding and you're used to sitting at a desk so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. (: So, are you planning to do this, along side the warehouse job (if you get it, hopefully) and your normal accountancy job? All three of them?

Yes inshallah.
The call centre one will only be around Qurbani time. READ foundation will be doing an appeal on Ummah Channel (I think. Or it Islam channel?) sothey will need people to answer the phones.
The warehouse job will be longer term, on weekends (one morning or maybe an afternoon) or maybe one evening as well (Thursday while kids are at scouts)

You've got some great, well-thought-out plans there! I'm sure you'll defineatly be kept busy but don't overwork yourself.
