Like all people, Arab Americans are too often described in simplistic terms. Although the Arab culture is one of the oldest on Earth, it is, in many parts of the United States and the Western world, misunderstood.

There are no easy, one-size-fits-all answers. Culture, language and religion are distinct qualities that act in different ways to connect Arabs, and to distinguish them from one another.

A BRITISH captive freed from Guantanamo Bay today tells the world of its full horror - and reveals how prostitutes were taken into the camp to degrade Muslim inmates.

Jamal al-Harith, 37, who arrived home three days ago after two years of confinement, is the first detainee to lift the lid on the US regime in Cuba's Camp X-Ray and Camp Delta.

The father-of-three, from Manchester, told how he was assaulted with fists, feet and batons after refusing a mystery injection.

He said detainees were shackled for up to 15 hours at a time in hand and leg cuffs with metal links which cut into the skin.

MORE than 14,000 white Britons have converted to Islam after becoming disillusioned with western values, according to the first authoritative study of the phenomenon.

Some of Britain’s top landowners, celebrities and the offspring of senior Establishment figures have embraced the strict tenets of the Muslim faith.

The trend is being encouraged by Muslim leaders who are convinced that the conversion of prominent society figures will help protect a community stigmatised by terrorism and fundamentalism.

This ridiculous statement was made by Toby Young, writer, broadcaster (and expert on Muslims and Islam - NOT!!!) on the last edition of Question Time aired 12 February from Portsmouth. One of the subjects discussed was the French banning of religious symbols in school, during this discussion Toby Young made this defamatory and disgusting statement. Unsurprisingly there were no Muslims in the audience to speak up for themselves.

Let's start with one truth: last March, when the US and its coalition partners invaded Iraq, the American public and much of the rest of the world believed that after Saddam's regime sank, a vast flotsam of weapons of mass destruction would bob to the surface. That, of course, has not been the case. Many people are now asking very reasonable questions about why they were misled.

The Muslim Association of Britain and the Muslim Women Society have jointly called for the 17th of January 2004 to be declared an International day of protest against France’s move to ban the Islamic Hijab, along with other ‘overt religious symbols’ in schools and public workplaces.

Since MAB and MWS made this call on the 20th of December in response to the request made by French Muslim schoolgirls, human rights organisations and religious and women’s groups from more than 20 countries have confirm that they will be holding pickets, vigils, demonstrations or letter-writing campaigns on the 17th of January in response to this call. Many more countries are expected to follow suit in the next few days.

LONDON, Sept 14 (AFP) - An Islamic school founded in London by Yusuf Islam, the singer formerly known as Cat Stevens, has been forced to close temporarily after the attacks in the United States, dministrators said Friday.

Islamia Primary School in northwest London, founded in 1984, is Britain's first state-funded Islamic school.

Zafar Ashras, chief administrator of the Islamia Schools Trust, said it was decided to close the school to ensure the safety of pupils and staff.

He said the move was vindicated after the school received threatening phone calls and a school secretary wearing hijab, or headscarf, was verbally abused while shopping.

French President Jacques Chirac has widespread popular support for the proposal to ban the wearing of religious symbols in state schools. And everyone knows that it is really about the Islamic headscarf.

Mustafa Demir, Imam of the Mahmutpasa Mosque in Istanbul, has been sent to the Istanbul State Security Court (DGM) after giving testimony to the police department, the Anatolia news agency reported on Sunday.

At the Friday prayer, Demir claimed that the reason for the recent financial crisis in Turkey is the headscarf ban in state offices.

"Society in Turkey is ill. There is a giant economic crisis. If you ban Allah's orders, this illness will spread," he reportedly told the people who were at the mosque for Friday prayer.

Demir also reportedly said that the pill for the illness is Islam and the path of Allah.

Rejecting the "Fatwa" calling for Jihad by some 30 scholars, the chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that in the prevailing circumstances there was no solid religious ground for such a call.

Speaking at Meet the Press Programme of Rawalpindi Islamabad Press Club, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri welcomed Pakistan's support to international war against terrorism and stressed the need for rooting out the real causes of terrorism the world over.
