Colour Blind?

Salaam

Islam is supposed to be colour blind. No race/colour is superior to another.

How much do you stereotype? When you see someone who is black, do you hold your purse closer to you and walk past him/her quickly?

I often hear elders stressing over how our youth are “acting black”….listening to rap/hip hop makes them “black”

When you see a white girl do you just assume she's easy?

Do you ever come across Pakistani’s or Indians and assume that they’re backwards and smell of curry?

Does the media reinforce our stereotypes? Or do people actions make us ascribe stereotypes to them?

And why do mixed-race marriages cause fewer ripples amongst many non-Muslims, yet a Pakistani Muslim Marrying a Black Muslim convert can lead to their family cutting them off…..

Annoyingly most people do put importance on race, but many don’t want to admit it….

How much importance do you attribute to race? Are your opinions of someone's attractiveness or personality influenced by their race or ethnicity?

Do you have friends of different races/ ethnicities?

Would any of you have an issue if you daughter came home with a black man?

Share your thoughts.

Islam does not stereotype. People stereotype.

Its usually the actions of a few bad apples that give the rest a bad name.

Garfield answer the Q instead of getting sidetraked.

Would u have an issue with ur daughter marrying a Muslim Black guy?

i think marriage is the ultimate test to see if ur racist: ask urself if you'd marry outside of your own race - a black, white, arab, oriental, etc. guy/gal. if the answer is "no way!" then u r racist...
i think most people in our generation, having lived and grown up in the U.K, have passed this barrier now but its our parents generation which need convincing unfortunately (having said that, my parents are fine with me and my siblings marrying any good muslim, no matter the race, alhumdulillah).

As long as I approve of his character, and believe he can support my daughter I have no objections.

The real question is LilSis would you?

of course, as long as he was a decent geezer

anyway-guys how far do u stereotype

whenever my guji mates act stingy I ascribe that to them being "gujis'" and whenever I see a Paki man acting arrogant I ascribe that to him being "Paki'"

and whenever I come across a Arab man acting sexist I ascribe that to him being Arab

Religion is the only factor that can overcome strong cultural/racial differences.

There are many differences amongst cultures, namely food, clothes, language and mentality…..however if one lives his/her life by the rules dictated by their religion as apposed to their culture then such marriages can work.

Prejudices and stereotypes do exist, which all generate from ignorance.

As Aasiyah pointed out, ones level of racism is only put to the test when the issue of marriage comes up….until then it’s easy to talk.

I-m so happy that is so stereotypical!! i didnt expect that from u lilsis, its the kinda thing omrow or mujahid wud do (painting ppl with one and the same brush). there are good and bad apples in every tree...

i think bad personal exprience's makes it OK to sterotype amongst certain races

I'm sure if everyone here had a bad persoanl exp with 50 people within the same race/colour they'd become anti that race/colour

I dont think very high of Arab men at all

The seerah of the Prophet (pbuh) tells us that Islam was sent to an "Arrogant nation" in Arabia

so arrogance is the trait of Arabs

Yes. I am racist. I hate Wahhabis.

They are child kidnapping, civiliian murdering, September 11 loving, Satan admiring, intimidating, patronising, Prophet disrespecting bunch of cowards !

I feel no shame in admitting that I hate these dumb Salafies and their God slandering, terror encouraging stupid clerics.

And furthermore, I believe that other Muslims are superior to these fools.

We shouldn't hate them, we should just hate there actions, we should try to persuade them to not do those things.

You can't prove that salafis are responsible for 9/11 or any other terrorist actions.

That’s a little harsh sis…Most Arab men are good people.

I know that rich Arab men are know for their arrogance, I see them at Regents Park walking around like they own the place, (which they probably do) but the ordinary Arab men are ok.

I often meet them in Hide Park's Speakers Corner on Sunday.

There they preach, and call people to Satan.

These Salafies think they know God's religion. When I grill them on Holy Prophet and his Sacred Teachings they get angry and start mumbling in Arabic.

They are incapable of discussing different points of views in a polite manner.

They are truly devoid of Real Islam.

It seems that last 1400 years did not benefit them at all. Stupid morons.

I admit, I do stereotype. If there's one black guy then it's cool but when there's a group of them walking towards me that's when I'm on full alert. For some reason Somalian guys don't bother me, maybe coz I assume that they're Muslim.

"MuslimSister" wrote:

No, I know a few girls who are white and none of them are 'easy', however I do sometimes judge people on the way they are dressed, only if I do not know them.

"MuslimSister" wrote:

Only the ones who come from back home (freshies).

"MuslimSister" wrote:

Yes, when you watch/read the news, you always see a black guy who's robbed someone, or a black guy who's shot someone, it's always a black guy. The media is always selecting news and we got ourselves to blame partly for accepting these stereotypes.

"MuslimSister" wrote:

At primary and secondary school 99% of my mates were asian, now that I'm at uni it's dropped to around 10%, so the answer is yes.

"MuslimSister" wrote:

I wouldn't.... not being racist, but I would prefer it if she married an asian guy.

Ok, here's a question for everyone. Would YOU consider marrying a black guy/girl?.... and would your parents be alrite about it or would they kick up a fuss.
