Currently we have two separate topics on this issue, but no poll. I have fixed that problem.
It’s a brand new day
And the sun is high
All the birds are singing

Has anyone actually seen the movie?

I think we should have a go at the film peacefully but we shouldn't just shut up and put up with it. We just can't!
Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

is there a point in retaliating to such things coz accept it or not but this is gna happen ... some1, somewhere will attempt to attck Islam ... its like thy have nothin else to do... but instead of giving such ppl a piece of ur mind and wastin ur time n effort ... they shud be advised by those who r comfortable to answer questions regardin islam wiv correct references on the spot...
i remembr froma talk by a greek convert philosopher (cant remmbr his name) ... n i liked wot he said... 1 must try to clear any misconceptions that they might have in the light of the Quran and Hadith but do not attempt to convert them... it is wen u try to convert them that u mess up and clashes begin!

There are some people whoare so narrow minded that they'll always think badly of Islam. But there are some people on the fence, so why don't we debate, argue and clear the misconceptions. Just sitting there won't help.

You know what? After watching the docu, I added another option on the poll "Wake me up when there is a decent docu out there..."
I could have done much better (or is that worse?). At least make the music hint at danger or urgency.

The music used is Tchaikovsky's "Arab Dance". Perhaps Wilders shouldn't have used something from western culture that is inspired by Arabs and Muslims because it shows that Muslims have contributed positively to the world.

How did you find that out? There are many times I hear a tune that I want to know more about but have no idea how... except to google "tune/music in blahblah" - which can be tricky for an advert.

I studied Music at Uni. For all of 3 months....
I am very well versed in Romantic and Nationalist music. Grieg was originally from Aberdeen, dontcha know.
(It was in a comment piece on the film on Guardian Unlimited).

Most courses have in the first year you have a rough core of:
- the history of European music from about 1550-present day.
- 'world music' (i.e. different cultures' folk music)
- composition
- performance (instrument or singing. But to be a singer you need to be properly trained).
- other stuff
In 2nd and 3rd years you're more likely to specialise in something, whether its a particular era of music, or a type of composition or performing is up to you. You can also do things with music technology/production but that's not really in a traditional music degree.
Being able to play something is a MUST. You can't really do GCSE and you certainly can't do A-level without being quite experienced.
In terms of singing, most singers are operatic, but there are some jazz singers too. Either way, your voice need to be pretty amazing.
