The month of Shaban

DON'T MISS OUT!! OFFER AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!! DON'T ASSUME YOU WILL BE HERE NEXT YEAR TO BENEFIT FROM THE MONTH OF SHABAN!!

I heard a very interesting khutbah yesterday, about the month of Shaban, and I wanted to share some of it with you.

This month offers great rewards. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) fasted in this month MORE than he did in any other month (apart from Ramadan).

There are extra groups of angels circling around looking for people engaging in dhikrullah, and they will be extra witnesses for us on the Day of Judgement, insha'Allah.

Advice for a friend

salam,

I have a friend who converted to Islam but has, simply, found it too difficult to adhere to the obligations put upon us. He still believes, but he can't stick to the routine. He sent me this email, can anyone help?
I’ve got another question about Islam, if that’s OK.

I think that the intellectual acceptance of Islam was something I could manage under my own steam and embrace without too much trouble. The difficulty I didn't anticipate though was the change in lifestyle – I found that much more problematic: getting up at 3 am every day to pray; fasting for a whole month; only eating Halal food (it doesn't exist in my region of France).

Good Luck Baby-Dropping

Quote:
Worshippers at a Muslim shrine in western India have been dropping babies from a tower for good luck.

The "good luck babies" are thrown from a height of 50ft on to a cloth sheet in a bizarre ritual that is thought to bring them good health.

Baby dropping has taken place at the shrine in Solapur, in the state of Maharastra, for over 500 years. It also takes place on special days in other parts of the country.

The ritual is practised by couples who are blessed with a child after taking a vow at the Baba Sheikh Umar Saheb Dargah or temple.

Good Advice - Think Twice!

I thought we should have a thread for useful nuggets of information or wisdom that we come across. Let me get the ball rolling:

Ali ibn Abi Talib, radi Allahu 'anhu, stood with a companion of his near a grave one day and asked him, 'If he could come back to this Dunya, what do you think he would do?'

He replied, 'He would do nothing but good deeds.'

So Ali, radi Allahu 'anhu, said, 'If it is not going to be him, then let it be you!'

Life Altering Decisions

RIGHT

I have almost come to the conclusion that I should quit my job. It's not a bad job; they treat me quite well and are paying half the money for my studying. It's easy and it not really a struggle. I get long holidays and my colleagues give me bare jokes.

BUT

I've been there THREE years. I have NO motivation anymore. It's boring and I'm not sure if I even want to go into the career that the training is for.

"Moses (as) was on drugs" claims Professor
According to Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, psychedelic drugs formed an integral part of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times.

Writing in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy, he says concoctions based on the bark of the acacia tree, frequently mentioned in the Old Testament, contain the same molecules as those found in plants from which the powerful Amazonian hallucinogenic brew ayahuasca is prepared.
