The election of Ariel Sharon as Prime Minister of Israel by that nation's Jewish citizens does not come as a surprise to the Palestinian community. Israel has revealed its true intentions for peace today as it voted into office a murderous war criminal. Being faced with the reality that it must restore Palestinian rights, Israel has opted to hide behind a warmonger, whose life-long career has been stained, over and over again, with Palestinian blood.
SHARON'S BLOODY PAST:
1945 Prior to the establishment of the Zionist state, Sharon was an active member in the Jewish terrorist group, the Haganah, which carried out bloody campaigns of terror in the name of Judaism.
1953 Sharon lead a military operation into the Palestinian village of Kibya, laying siege to the city, killing 67 innocent civilians, and destroying dozens of homes, as well as the local mosque.
1982 As Israeli Defense Minister, Sharon ordered the invasion of Lebanon. Thousands of civilians were massacred. The most horrific massacre having taken place on September 16th of that year when Israeli forces and their allies invaded the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatilla. Over 2,500 innocent refugees were slaughtered in the subsequent genocidal rampage. An Israeli commission would later find Sharon responsible for the atrocity.
2000
In an intentionally provocative move, Sharon,
accompanied by 1,000 security officers, penetrated the
sacred Muslim shrine, known as the Noble Sanctuary,
or Haram al Sharif. This move, as Sharon hoped, sparked
the now four-month-old Intifada which has claimed the
lives of over 400 Palestinians, including 13 who were
citizens of Israel. In addition, over 10,000 Palestinians
were wounded, many of whom have become permanently
disabled.
It is ironic that Sharon has been elected Prime Minister after the Kahan commission recommended that he could never be even Defense Minister again.
The Palestinian-American community is very concerned about the near future in the Middle East now that the "Butcher of Beirut" is in power. Our position does not mean that we preferred Ehud Barak over Sharon.
Barak's hands are just as bloody as Sharon's. In fact almost every Israeli Prime Minister has been a military leader responsible for the death of innocent Palestinians. All Americans should be concerned due to the fact that the US has aligned itself with Israel, giving the state over $4 billion per year in military and economic aid. We call on our government to finally halt US aid to Israel, and state that it is clearly not interested in true peace. If Israeli's intentions weren't clear before, they are surely clear now. Israel's idea of peace is war.
