Does God have a role in the world today?

Does God have a role in the world today?

God will not intervene to prevent humanity from wreaking disastrous damage to the environment, the Archbishop of Canterbury has warned. What's your reaction to this?

Dr Rowan Williams has urged a "radical change of heart" to prevent runaway climate change. At York Minster he said humanity should turn away from the selfishness and greed that leads it to ignore its interdependence with the natural world.

He said just as God gave humans free will to do "immeasurable damage" to themselves as individuals it seemed "clear" they had the same "terrible freedom" as a human race. He also warned that God would not guarantee a "happy ending".

Do you support Dr Williams' views? Is a 'radical change of heart' the only way to prevent climate change?

You are making it sound like God is a concept created by humans in order to hide some perceived deficiency or other.

It does not matter if believing in God has a effect in the world today because God would still exist even if it didn't.

It's almost like that concept of being angry with God because something in life went wrong. Like a puppy died. Why would God ever punish you like that?

You're missing the point.

Which is?

I think that's the real question.

“Before death takes away what you are given, give away whatever there is to give.”

Mawlana Jalal ud Din Rumi

Climate change is the wrong thing to be worrying about. Like a false false messiah.

Why? It is an issue that's gonna affect the next generation. And Allah commands us to look after the Earth.

I thought he tells us we can take of it, consume? I may be wrong though as I have not looked into it.

Overall, climate change is either a non-issue - or if its an issue, its not something that will be controlled.

The climate of the planet does change over time. as also does its orbit - some times its more round, sometimes its more egg shaped.

Only recently thay found out that the temperatures of oceans are more affected by the lack of dust particles in the air than by an increase in CO2. So a good way to fight global warming would be to have more muck in the air...

But it's not the temperature of the oceans that's the problem, it's the rising sea levels and melting of the polar ice caps.

I'm not saying that we can stop climate change, mate, but we can control it or slow it down. Remember the Earth is going to testify against or in favour of us on that Big Day.

The polar ice caps melt due to the increase in temperature. Atleast that is the theory - last summer it was expected than the northern ice caps would disappear. The opposite happened - they increased in size.

Larger ice caps means less water out there to raise the oceans.

Thing is, rising sea levels will always be a problem. Just imagine a scenario that the sea levels sunk. What would happen is that the newly created land will be colonised as it would be rich in sediments and good to grow stuff on.

Now when ever the sea levels go to normal, the "rise" will be a problem.

There is a reason why people thrive on coast lines and river deltas. But living in those places has its set of inherent dangers. "Fixing" the climate just delays the inevitable.

Another thing is that the earth is in equilibrium. Actions in one area will be offset by reactions in another.

I am sure that the Right Honourable Rowan Williams
did not say what he was thought to have said.

He is a wise dude, and would not utter gutter, for he is no nutter.
