[Call for Nominations] Muslim Personality of 2008

Salaams people.

Another stalwart of the old days.

But instead of having a poll straight away, maybe we should get nominations of who gets onto the poll itself. Mainly because I have no idea who did what this year and cannot think of a single name.

So, go ahead and suggest people that have done something extraordinary this year (its not a lifetime achievement award) and then maybe in a few days we can have a properly publicised poll on the site that can run for a set period of time.

Giving a short para or two as for the reason would be most helpful.

Salam

The man of the year 2008 is the shoe thrower, Muntazer al Zaidi.

The guy showed balls to the most powerful man on earth.

How about Funzo?

At the beginning of 2008 he was a little kid, now he's a fully-grown man!

Don't just do something! Stand there.

yes he is. And he did impress me with setting up his own online radio ramadan. The guy had the will and found the way.

Saying that, his ripples may have been far too local.

(Is Ya'qub trying to subtly pass his crown from last year?)

Well it only just happened. You have numerous Muslim personalities, leaders of countries and committees, achievers in arts, sciences, commerce, you have writers, academics, imams, celebrities, heroes and philanthropists...

My nomination won't be the shoe thrower. I shall need a think or perhaps back another suggestion.

hmmm, as much as we would all like to have done that. It achieved nothing other than becoming another video on YouTube. Plus he later apologised.

Perhaps someone whose actually done something useful for the Muslim People.

We can have many now. but later on there will be a vote off on the site for all the mentioned names.

This thread is just a call for nominations. we do not seem to be getting too far with it. Has the year been that bad?

He was voted as the world's top academic. He gives a good message of 'peaceful Islam' or suchlike. His jam'at is one of the largest in the wolrd, and they promote education of a high standard (i.e. not just memorising thousands of ahadith without learning about the actual 'world').

As such, he is not allowed to enter is home-country, Turkey.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

The Ayatollah of Iran?
Ayatollah muqtada?
Hamid Karzai?
Ahemdinijad?
Osama Bin Bombthem?
Mohammed Ajmal Aamir Qasab?
Zaki ur-Rehman Lakhvi?
Imam Samudra, Amrozi Nurhasyim and Ali Ghufron?

So much to choose from?

WHat did any of them do?

Give a reason from something they did THIS year.

What do you have against Hamid Karzai? Isn't he the odd one out in that list?

Last week there were dozens Christians stood outside
the White House throwing their shoes at
President Bush, or rather his dummy.

They were showing their praise of Al Zaidi, and
expressing their solidarity with the brave journalist

Shoe throwing craze is just in its beginning phase.

Other leaders would, no doubt, be learning to duck like Bush.

Symbolically the incident achieved a lot more than
had Al Zaidi fired a bullet at the idiot.

Omrow

p.s. what worth is an apology, or a confession, that is meated out of torture, master?

But is it all not pointless throwing shoes at the END of his presidency?

A new nomination for Personality of the Year 2008:

George W Bush.
He single handedly (well not really - he had help) managed to change the future of US politics where the next president will be one who seems to have radically different views. He also paved the way for the first black president, he has managed to reduce the disparity in power of the rich and the poor nations through his actions.

never thought of it like that, what an idiot Bush is

Why do you lot keep calling Mr. Bush an Idiot?

And no, "because dot dot dot " (and anything similar) is an unqualified answer.

Because he suffers from a condition called Idiopathic syndrome.

Idiopathic, from the Latin meaning he's inherently an idiot for starting the war on terror without realising its not actually something he can defeat by bombing the cr@p outta it.

But, when you're 4th-down, 100 to go, in the snow, you don't call a running play up the middle. Unless you're the Jets.

BUT since it's all disappearing in sweet history, adn probably MAKING history ... won't the next person to take the stage be a carrier of that 'syndrome'?

All the more reason this debate is pointless.

I did not call him stupid - just nominated him for the award of Muslim Personality for the Year 2008.

No further nominations?

Some muslim (or even non-muslim) must have done something this year that benefited Muslims as a whole?
