Yeah, i thought at first I missed it as it was finishing but then found Channel 4 +1.
I watched it, and to me it felt like the program was basically having a go at parts of the Qur'an. Thats how I felt anyway. Especially when they had one German dude or whatever he was translating arabic words and putting a different meaning to them.
Another example would be the part where they questioned whether or not a Muslim woman has to wear hijab or not, the whole "does the hair need to be covered" bit. From reading the Qur'an myself I know that it says that the whole body except the face and hands should be covered. It seemed like they wanted clear cut "you MUST cover you hair!" written in the Qur'an, what are your views on this bit ppl?????
Oh and how about the nightclub in Syria or Egypt wherever it was, "not a veil in sight", and? Not all Muslims in the world are gonna be 100% practising, just like other religions.

The media, government, tried to blow us, but they can't out the flame, or doubt the name.
Yeah, it was great. Normally documentaries like that try to put down Islam but this one was actually elevating it and answering the common comments made by kufaar concerning the qura'an and there misinterpretations. Fantastic! But you right, that woman was just trying to avoid the ruling of wearing the hijab, its clearly stated in the qura'n and hadith. But I think the scholars and shieks on it made very good points and gave accurate answers.

Channels 4 lied many things about Shia Muslims as well as about Sunni Muslims. But thanks to Iranian religious ulema who put things right in very short space of time given to them. Kaafirs always lies when it comes to Muslims. They can't state facts.
They kept asking one Muslim man in Oxford about Islam as if he is an Alim accepted by Muslims. The brother was not one of the religious Ulema. Channel 4 was deceptive. It should have asked direct questions to religious figures of the Muslims world in both Egypt and in Iran. Why ask a guy in Oxford. What does he know about Quran.
Only Ayatollahs, the Signs of God, can can teach Muslims what exactly words of Allah means in the holy Quran.
But cheat at Channel 4 were to scared to talk about the Quran and its teaching directly to its official interpreters. They rather went and asked women who did not even cover themselves. It was totally a biased and prejuidice program.

I would disagree with Malik abt most of the things... i didn't think it was biased infact it wasn't biased at all... The documentary covered a diverse range of views to be honest... all the main and outstanding divisions btween Muslims.
here's my reply: i think its best out and i don't like to change my word unless absolutely necessary! (yh I make notes when watching/hearing something this serious… it not “sad” but just a memory aid):
overview about the Qur’an and its importance in Islam and to Muslims
The status of the Qur’an and the status of the Ahadith (should they be at the same platform??)
The fact that in some matters Qur’an seems to keep a balance such as that of tolerance and intolerance against the ‘people of the book’ ie. Jews and Christians >> Is Qur’an contradicting or placing rules and limits on the Muslim tolerance?? (Science and Philosophy)
Terrorism >> Muslims DID NOT invent this act, those who you claim to be terrorist (Muslims) are victims in most cases that aren’t aired as much... Are Muslims vunerable? >> E.g. of Israel and Palestine. (Israel broke a treaty that existed between Muslims and Jews… should the same be applied as the Prophet had done in his days when the Kuffar broke their treaty of Hudaybiyah??
False sense of security >> where’s the sixth sense TRUST??
“sometime the flowers need the protection of thornes” >> suicide being our only option even though it is strictly prohibited?? (such as it is carried out by Palestinians?)
Shi’a belief… it contracdicts with the Sunni belief… especially the matter about health and security … it is permitted to fight as long as you are defending yourself… and if attack is a form of defence then is it permissible??
Then a question not directly raised but I kno its gna get a lot of hot heads: should shi’a community (or many other sects that it may apply to as a matter of fact) be considered as Muslims due to the fact that they believe in intermediaries who have significance but only with the shi’as. >> One thing I don’t get is how do ordinary people know that good practicing great scholars and ulema are that close to Allah and that they can intercede for these ordinary people… they are not prophets… and certainly not ma’soom… they too will be resurrected and questioned same way as the rest of the generations… It clearly states in the Qur’an and our fundamental belief is that Mahammad is the last prophet and the Sahabah (the closet and greatest ppl after the Prophets) will enter Jannah… they are not already there like the Prophets! Its just that their Good deeds have out balanced any bad deeds that might be in their profile erased probably by the sincere tauba that they had done… Allahu Allim! Here are two words that I hate and can’t understand: “SAINT WORSHIPPING” >> intermediary aloud?? >> do you receive an answer quicker through intermediary?? Are you judging and calculating Allah’s ability?? For Heaven’s Sake He is All GREAT and All KNOWING and All SEEING so why does he need ordinary humans that he hasn’t ‘sent’ but have helped to gain the max Knowledge abt Islam to guide the Ummah as defence for the ppl? Isn’t Allah the Most JUST and the Most Kind?? Due you not Trsut Him?? He is the One who will judge us… He will be our lawyer and our good deeds will be our defence!
Sufism: relationship with God being UNIQUE and DIRECT and full of COMPASSION >> LOVE IT… but while loosing urself in this state, u forget the world, the Ummah, your haya, your modesty, your humbleness, your affections for the rest, your contributions to the world, YOUR HUQOQ-UL-IBAD which is one of the chapters in your profile!
Wahabism: Insersions in the Qur’anic text? I didn’t know that! Is it allowed even though it is in Brackets?? Or the brackets are their to relate the Ayah to modern days?? WHY IS IT THERE??
Mercy: Complete conclusive guilt… how serious must the case be to apply the Hudoods?? Why are the punishments still carried out even though the guilty person is SO sorry that he/she is prepared to repent and do sincere tauba, devoting oneself to Islam from there on… what if the guilty feels guilty??>> where’s the mercy in that??
The Veil: pay attention to the link that the director made : In the Qur’an it is clearly stated that women must cover all body parts (that are the part of their aura) except that which is apparent…what exactly does the word ‘apparent’ limit us to?? Hands and the face? >> but then some believe that ALL parts must be covered that can distract attention of an opposite sex… then why do women forget to cover their eyes?? (I personally think eyes tell a lot about the person and are sooooooooo mesmerising… and are the prettiest features of ALL animals including humans of course) >> additionally, in many ayahs it is the Prophets’ wives being commanded to cover up because of their status… if it is the beauty that needs to be covered then what about men?? Shouldn’t the same be applied to them… I think some men are GORGEOUS… but obviously have to give myself a slap to break out of the trance! (im being general but you must remember I function differently compared to many women!) ……. In a nut shell… the veil is OPTIONAL… and covering of hair should be left to women, it must be presented as CHOICE (I cover my hair cos I was told to do so… but why must I do it? I had to find out myself! Similarly most muslim women are in that manner illiterate) … NOW women are Barked upon to cover hair mainly by men because ‘it says in the Qur’an’ but suicide bombing/mass murder thro suicidal means (killing of human beings including urself) is acceptable even tho that is CLEARLY prohibited??? WHAT? Hair does not kill … ok 5 in million due to their own stupidity but Suicide bombing??? Some body raise the alarm!
I like this point and I mentioned it before on the forum… I love to hear from ppl who are outside our belief or those who are new to it eg. Converts n philosophers n Dr.sor profs in religion (don’t have to be muslim)… n the director in a way said since the Ummah is soooo divided cos of their own interpretations of the Qur’an, if a non-muslim or some1 with a virgin mind interprets it can one Ummah be achieved?? Can they help to solve some of the issues that may have misled the Naïve Muslims?? >> the discovery of oldest of the Quranic parchments in Syria>> words identified to have a diverse meaning due to the placement of dots belonging to the specific alphabet of a certain Arabic dialect… some words present in other languages with differing meanings… Luxemburg eg. Has come up with meanings that will change the context of the whole sentence but it doesn’t ‘rhyme’ with the chapter or the surrounding verse! So is it an invention or a mystery uncovered?? Should Qur’an be treated Literally or are there hidden meanings??
Think and Think again!<< the documentary is coded… unveil them to find out what the director was actually saying and portraying… fragile, fraying, divided, manipulative and stone hearted Ummah? Or is it the opposite?

i believe this was a biased documentary which tried to put down and question the beliefs of Muslims. End of the day it portrayed to much negativity the Quran has guided so many Muslims and am sure the makers of the documentary could have spoke to more people who had been positiveley affecteed by reading the Quran. hi everyone i watched the documentary and found it quite interesting. it was good to see different sects of islam across the world and their cultures and customs that i was previously unaware of. i was glad that there wasnt too much emphasis on terrorism and suicide etc that is so often and wrongly linked with muslims. i was particularly proud of being part of the muslim world where algebra and the circumference of the world had been invented and discovered while the western european world where i live in was still contemplating the flat surface. the muslim intellect can stretch far and wide and some times i feel it is such a shame that it has not prevaled in the 21st century. may be this is the perfect opportunity for all muslims to unite and rediscover the true power of love in islam and the quran.
I was disgusted at the way that woman tried to explain the wife beating verse
She did not explain it properly, n basically condoned beating women
They asked her deliberately in order to get a biased opinion; they should hav asked a more learned scholar such as tariq ramadan or that british imam, cant remember his name

We can moan till the cows come home about programmes we watch, but overall, whilst I disagreed with some aspects of the programme, I appreciated the making of such a programme. It brought to light many positive aspects, and cleared many misunderstandings and misconceptions some non-muslims (and muslims!) commonly hold. One point I didnt like was the invisible German theologian's findings of Syriac words in the Qur'an (i did not feel that it was as groundbreaking as implied) (they even said the Imam at-Tabari (ra) had made very similar discoveries 100s of years ago!).
I also noted that the writer, producer AND director of the programme was one individual: Antony Thomas. He therefore has had an underlying financial reason to make it successful - which would very easily explain why sensationalist footage and reporting made up part of it.
Like Naz, I also found the heavy editing annoying to say the least. In some parts, it was quite embarassingly evident.
It wasnt the worst programme that I had seen on Islam, but not the best either. Im quite enjoying the 7 wonders of the Muslim world on channel 4 all this week though (7:50pm, channel 4).

May Allah shine sweet faith upon you this day and times beyond. May your heart be enriched with peace, and may your home be blessed always. Ameen.
Very clever attempt by Channel 4 to confuse
Muslim kids in Britain who are not fully aware of history of their own religion.
Channel 4 tried to present a program to show that
God's Book has been altered.
They gave this section more time than any other part.
They couldn't find anyone in British Universities, and so,
they quoted an unknown German man to prove their case.
And then, the silly presenter shot himself in the foot by saying
that even most of the western scholars say that the Holy Koran has
remained unchanged since time of Prophet Muhammad.

How come there are no programmes on Bible or any other religious book on Channel 4?
there HAVE been documentaries on the Bible, but ive noticed that theyre always something like how there r signs in the bible that have happened
so ye its heavily biased

Idiot.

How come there are no programmes on Bible or any other religious book on Channel 4?
The media, government, tried to blow us, but they can't out the flame, or doubt the name.
