Man Shot Dead By Police In London

'SUICIDE BOMBER' SHOT

Police have shot a suspected suicide bomber at a tube station in south London.

Reports are also coming in that a mosque in the east of the capital has been surrounded by armed officers and residents told to stay indoors.

In the first incident, marksmen opened fire near Stockwell Tube station as passengers were evacuated. It is thought the man was killed.

Alarmed onlookers said they saw police, some in plain clothes, chasing a man before opening fire.

Reports said the suspect was pushed to the ground and shot five times at close range.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We can confirm that just after 10am armed officers shot a male at Stockwell underground station."

The man is thought to have been either stepping on to the train or was on the platform.

Sky News Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said: "The officer or officers involved in this clearly felt this suspect was about to detonate a bomb."

Police have been given orders to shoot to kill if they believe someone is about to detonate a bomb.

"One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him.

So you catch the guy, gain control, but kill him before you can interrogate him?

wasn't that a point in the ten point plan linked earlier.

PS good advice:

Avoid London today. You have atleast 3 people on the loose who wanna die. Because they have probably been made out on CCTV, they don't have time to spare.

That's what I was thinking...won't this horribly backfire if they guy ends up being totally innocent?

Shooting a guy can not stop a bomb from going off (thats if he had a bomb on him).

Also wouldnt they themselves would have benefitted more so, from the interrogation?

Parliament could be recalled tonight to rush through new terror laws before the recess.

It could be that a dead 'bomber' would speak louder than a living one protesting innocence.

Or that the officer had a personal motive.

According to one eyewitness the guy was being chased by three officers, the officers were 2 or 3 feet behind him, he tripped or was pushed to the floor, and five bullets were pumped into him.

Surely the three officers could have restrained him once he was on the floor.

it aint fair to blame da cops for shooting dis man...hes believed to be da suspect from da oval yesterday...wot u expect da cops do do when a wanted "suicide bomber" suspect legs it onto a train?

but dis whole “suicide” thing is well dodgy..is has to be said...

there more holes in the official 7/7 story dan swiss cheese

who remembers da birmingham 6 and Guildford 4?

when da IRA was attacking us, da police framed untold innocent paddies for terrorist attacks..

cops know if dey dont arrest someone quicktime, then they gonna take a lot of blame for being unable to protect us...

wouldnt suprise me if da real murderers got away 2 weeks ago...

A Muslim group has said it is concerned there is a new police "shoot to kill" policy in the UK following the shooting dead of a man in south London.

The Muslim Council of Britain said it was getting calls from Muslims who were "distressed" about the incident at Stockwell Tube station.

Roy Ramm, former Met Police specialist operations commander, said the rules for confronting potential suicide bombers had recently changed to "shoot to kill".

if this geezer ends up being totally innocent-people cant complain about the backlash that will follow

Asian guy with a rucksack is their target-This is so stupid

most people who go to central carry rucksacks.

are the police gonna shoot evry Asian they see with a Rucksack-

i thought the "right to bear arms" was only a US thing

well doesnt look like they found anything on the guy because if they did it would be all over the news...

plus hes not even one of the 4 suspects they've caught on camera :?

they made a big mistake by killing him

lilsis...dont be silly...he wernt just some random passer by...

cops said dis guy was “directly linked” to da recent murders...

they were following him into stockwell tube...

when dey challanged him he ran off on to a train

dey fired a warning shot but he kept on going...

now in dat situation da police only got a split second to react...

if he was innocent then its a terrible mistake...but why was he acting so suspicious?

if he was linked to the bombings then police had to shoot him down..

"St George" wrote:

But why havent they made the connection clear yet?

Nope, no links had been made. Some bystander just reported him.

If he was still running on the train, and was shot, its understandable, and necessary.

But when he is on the floor, and you have total control over him, it not only unnecessary, but wrong as even if the person was a 'bomber', I am sure he will provide more info alive than dead.

As an aside, have you never ran for a bus/train when late? Now if someone with ordinary clothes told you to stop, would you care to wait and hear him out? Even if it meant missing the bus/train?

Good advice for young muslims: DO NOT RUN FOR A BUS OR TRAIN OR COACH. NOT EVEN FOR A FOOTBALL. IT COULD BE LETHAL.

Salaam

Thats so sad...who doesnt run for the bus/train.

And those who work/study in London mainly travel in buses/trains cos the traffic makes it impossible to take their car into London.

The News just keeps on focusing on the pictures of those four guys...no mention is made of the identity of the guy who has been shot down.

One would think that that should be the first thing they'd try to justify/explain.

Wasalaam

Carry on running for the bus or the train people!

It's not as if the police were sitting there with their shotguns waiting for some Paki to run past so they could shoot him pheasant-hunting-style. The guy who got shot knew he was being chased. The coppers, or whoever they were, were 2 or 3 feet behind him. He knew he was being chased, the cops knew he wasn't running late.

My mate has an interesting theory. What if the guy was just some random drug-dealer. Police called him over, he got scared and legged it, cops thought he was a suicider and shot him.

We should be told whether any explosives were found on him.

How would he know they were cops? They were plain clothes officers.

The drugs runner theory is also possible. (He may have thought it was a rival gang!)

They prob shouted to him, fired warning shots, he might have seen their guns or walky-talkies...

I don't think the plain-clothes officers could have been mistaken for a rival gang. They were on the look out for terrorists not undercover in a crack den.

The cops were, not the suspect. IMO you're reasoning is the wrong way round.

Cops were what?

Quote:
Witnesses spoke of panic as a man of south Asian appearance wearing a heavy jacket vaulted over barriers at the station as he was chased, tackled, then shot.

"I've never seen anything like it in my life. I saw them kill a man basically. I saw them shoot a man five times," witness Mark Whitby told BBC television.

Police said the man was connected to their investigation but did not say how.

"(He) is still subject to formal identification and it is not yet clear whether he is one of the four people we are seeking to identify and whose pictures have been released today," they said in a statement.

Sky Television News cited security sources as saying the man was not a bomber.

cold blooded murder.. only way to describe it.

Quote:
"I saw an Asian guy. He ran on to the train, he was hotly pursued by three plain clothes officers, one of them was wielding a black handgun.

"He half tripped... they pushed him to the floor and basically unloaded five shots into him," he told BBC News 24.

"As [the suspect] got onto the train I looked at his face, he looked sort of left and right, but he basically looked like a cornered rabbit, a cornered fox.

"He looked absolutely petrified and then he sort of tripped, but they were hotly pursuing him, [they] couldn't have been any more than two or three feet behind him at this time and he half tripped and was half pushed to the floor and the policeman nearest to me had the black automatic pistol in his left hand.

"He held it down to the guy and unloaded five shots into him.

if three people in plain clothes pointed a gun at me.. I know what id do..
nahh im sorry, the met police have totally lost the plot.. the fascist police who fired the shots should be locked up for a long time..

The cops were looking for a suspect. Not the suspect. Hopw would he know why people are waving guns at him for?

PS Its all dodgy, what with the change of story and all that as it is being reported today.

yep its definitely dodgy....it doesnt add up

we havnt been told anything about the guy....or how the cops became suspicious about him...

they havnt identified him yet either...sounds like a loada bull 2 me....they killed an innocent man n their trying 2 cover it up....otherwise his identity would be all over our tv screens by now

Well it has just been announced he was innocent.

He was in no investigation. He was not linked in any way to any terror group. Neither was he a suspect for anything.

Unless the copper is tried for murder, I will never have faith in the police force again.

what a sick world we live in

was he a Muslim?

They have not revealed the mans identity.

If they even try to cover this up, it will be like lighting a fuse.

This has really made me jittery.

If there's a group of big burly men running towards me, what do I do?

Call for review of police policy

Muslim leaders have called for a review of police policy on apprehending suspects after the shooting of a man unconnected to the London bombings.

The shooting has worried the Islamic community even though it is not known if the man was Muslim, they said.

Sir Iqbal Sacranie, of the Muslim Council of Britain, said the bombings had put the police under pressure.

But he warned: "It's vital that the utmost care is taken to ensure that innocent people are not killed."

But Azzam Tamimi, of the Muslim Association of Britain, said: "I just cannot imagine how someone pinned to the ground can be a source of danger."

He added: "It doesn't matter whether he is a Muslim or not, he is a human being.

"It is human lives that are being targeted - whether by terrorists or, as in this case, by the people who are supposed to be catching the terrorists."

"How can you shoot someone on mere suspicion?" he said. "You can't even put someone in prison on suspicion, how can you kill them like that?"

London Mayor Ken Livingstone said the police had acted in a way that they believed protected the lives of the public.

"This tragedy has added another victim to the toll of deaths for which the terrorists bear responsibility," he said.

Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Mark Oaten said he had full confidence in the police.

"The public will understand that the police have their best interests at heart," he said.

looks like he was innocent after all...

he was brazilian...

gotta say...cops stories keep on changing...

yesterday dey said he had been followed from an address found on one of the 7/7 bombers....

now dat story changed...he had nothing to do with it...

i dont trust police and intellegence....

wouldnt be the first time dey locked up/killed innocent men for terrorism...

dey panic, cos if dey dont catch the real bombers public gonna turn on tem and the politicans...

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

I found it sickening when on the news they virtually sighed in relief that it wasn't a muslim.

An innocent person was killed. It does not matter what creed e held, but the fact the coppers were trigger happy.

The shooter better be punished.
