Islamic Circles Presents:

GIVE A CHILD A HOME THIS RAMADAN

Presentation and appeal by The Islamic Fostering Service

Date: Sunday 9th October 2005
Time: 11am - 1pm
Venue: Froud Centre, Romford Road, Manor Park, London E12 5JF

‘The most famous orphan in Islam was, without doubt, the Prophet (saw).
His father died before he was born and by the time he was 8, he had lost
his mother and it was his grandfather (Abu Talib) who named him
& subsequently raised him into adulthood.

When the Prophet's(saw) wife Khadijah(ra) gave to him a slave named
Zayd Ibn Harithah (ra), the Prophet(saw) freed the boy and raised him
as if he were his own son. Thus the importance of taking homeless children
to care for them became a well-established tradition in Islam. The Islamic
form of "adoption" is called kafâla, which literally means sponsorship,
but comes from the root word meaning "to feed." It is best translated as
"foster parenting".

Living away from the Muslims lands has meant the absence of the
traditional family network and with increasing social & psychological
(such as mental, drugs, drinking and matrimonial breakdowns) issues
within the community, there is an increasing number of Muslim children
being fostered and even adopted by non-Muslims which we as a community
must respond to.

There is also a lot of confusion and ignorance about the Islamic stance
on fostering, adoption, the do's and don'ts and where to go to for
advice and assistance.

If you are couple who is thinking about fostering or someone who really
wants to help these innocent children from the Ummah of Muhammed Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him)
then, inshallah this seminar will be of benefit to you.

Finally, please this Ramadan, don't forget the children who need to be
fostered by Muslim families. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said, “The best house of
Muslims is one where an orphan is cared for.”

"I and the caretaker of the orphan will enter Paradise together like this,
raising (by way of illustration) his forefinger and middle finger jointly,
leaving no space in between." [Saheeh al-Bukhaari]
