SISTER LOOKING FOR FELLOW SISTERS IN LONDON

I am looking to extend my social circle because it is difficult to
meet other Muslim females, especially in the London area. I would
really like to get to know some more Muslim females and develop a
friendship in real life as opposed to just on the Internet. Being
able to talk to like minded individuals, share thoughts and feelings
or even just being a shoulder to cry on. I am the sort of person who
will make an effort to get to know people and give them my time, so
would like to meet females also on the same level as me. Please only
email if you are willing to make an effort and give your time as
well to travel within London to meet up. I will of course do the
same, insha'Allah. Feel free to email me on

HELP FAMILIES OF DEPORTEES - HHUGS APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Following the recent arrests of ten Foreign Nationals with a view to
deport them to their countries of origin, Hhugs (Helping Households
Under Great Stress) is urgently looking for volunteers to give lifts
to the families of these detainees to the prisons in which they are
incarcerated. These brothers are being held at distant and
inaccessible locations in York and Worcestershire, and as such,
travelling by public transport to visit their loved ones is simply
not an option for these families. We are specifically looking for
volunteers in London, Luton, Leicester and Birmingham. All petrol
costs will be reimbursed by Hhugs. If you are able to help, please
contact Hhugs on 07931 833 980 or e-mail

APPEAL FOR DONATIONS, PRAYER MATS & OTHER ITEMS FOR MUSLIM PRISONERS

As per last year at Qurbani time, we are appealing for donations of
funds to help provide dates to prisoners during Ramadan. We are also
in need of prayer mats, netted hats, itar (non alcoholic perfume),
tasbeehs and alarm clocks (these should be the small standard ones
that can be purchased from places like Ikea or Argos but not the
large adhan clocks, as per regulations in prison). Many people have
such items as unwanted gifts from Arabia or surplus items that were
bought back from holiday. We are also appealing to food distributors
of packed dry and cold food such as savoury snacks, biscuits, cakes,
Bombay mix, sweets, etc, to kindly donate, or for individuals to
help fund these items to be bought and distributed for iftar and
Eid. If you could send Qurans in Arabic and translations into
different languages, that would also be appreciated. For further
information or queries about how you can contribute towards these
Ramadhan and Eid projects please contact Sister Nosheena on
or call on 07984 433 288.

MUSLIM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT PRISONS IN BRIXTON & WANDSWORTH (London)

Between 1993–2000 the number of Muslims in British prisons doubled.
Today there are approximately 7,000 Muslims in prison. Muslims in
Britain only constitute 2.5% of the general population but they
make up approximately 9% of the prison population. The Muslim
community needs to help them resettle into society and help to
stop them from re-offending. Allah (swt) says about the pious:

"They give food, in spite of their love for it, to the poor, the
orphan and the prisoner, (saying): 'We feed you seeking Allah's
countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you'."
(Qur'an, 76:8-9)

We are looking for volunteers to help rehabilitate and resettle
Muslim ex-offenders into the community. You can help by giving
a few hours of your time a week, you can take part in teaching
sessions in the prison, you can support the work of the imams
or you may want to become a mentor to an ex–offender in the
community. Remember, a prisoner comes from your community and
he or she will be released back into YOUR community.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and contributing
to this rewarding and challenging work, please contact:

Islamic Circles Presents:

FIASCO OVER THE START/END OF RAMADAN

with Mohammad Aslam Ijaz (MCB & UK Hilal Committee) and others

Date: Sunday 2nd October 2005
Time: 11am - 1pm
Place: Froud Centre, Romford Road, Manor Park, London E12 5JF

Every year we seem to be faced with the same old controversy
about which day Ramadan starts and when it will finish. Whilst
there is legitimate scope for differences of opinion in these
matters, recent years have demonstrated that the behaviour of
Muslims in dealing with such issues has left a lot to be
desired. So, is it really possible for Muslims in the UK to
start fasting on the same day? Why all the silly name calling?
What role does Science play in all of this? Are you confused
by the whole affair and can't be bothered anymore? Perhaps
you require some clarification? Come and take part in this
discussion where we hope to shed some light on the issues. It
promises to be a lively and informative session, insha'Allah.

JEWISH & MUSLIM COMMUNITIES SHARE A DATE

Date: Sunday 2nd October 2005
Time: 3.00 pm
Venue: Bristol University Chaplaincy Centre, 1 Priory Road, Clifton,
Bristol, BS8 1TX

For the first time in decades, the start of Ramadan and the start
of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is likely to fall on the
same date, Tuesday 4 October. Rosh Hashanah marks start of the
Jewish year and the beginning of a period of reflection leading
up to the fast day of Yom Kippur - the Day of Atonement. For
Muslims, the month of Ramadan is also a period of fasting and
self-reflection, which ends with Eid al-Fitr. To celebrate this
rare occurrence, Bristol University hosts a special gathering
which will bring the two communities together to share their
visions and discuss the meaning of both religious festivals.

Jewish and Muslim participants will draw on a common story - the
relationship between the two sons of Abraham, Isaac and Ishmael,
to discuss issues of human dignity and self-awareness.

Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain Presents:

A CALL FOR UNITY DURING RAMADAN

Time: 4.00 pm
Venue: Jasmin's Hall, 202 Upper Tooting Rd, London, Tooting, SW17 7TG

al-Haddad (Al Muntada Al Islami), Qasim Khawaja (Hizb ut-Tahrir),
Dr Adnan Siddiqui (Stop Political Terror), Makbool Javaid (Human
Rights Lawyer), and Saghir Hussain (Human Rights Lawyer).

Harming and killing innocent civilians is haram (forbidden) in Islam
and the Muslim community has unequivocally condemned the 7/7 bombings.
Despite this, the politicians and the media have targeted the entire
Muslim community with responsibility of the actions of a few inviduals.
Stop and search, shoot to kill and proposals to extend the anti-terror
legislation have stigmatised the Muslim community and created much
anxiety and fear. This public meeting, part of a nationwide campaign,
sets out the call of Hizb ut-Tahrir for unity and truthfullness at
these testing times with the approach of the month of Ramadan.
