i'm sick of all the hype already my radio is switched off permanently, no newspapers till it finishes either. I'll make sure I don't visit my mum's house until the frenzy is over, i expect my brothers will be glued to the screen.

I don't mind it really just when you hear about ppl cancelling their wedding plans, or missing their child's birth just for a footy match makes you wonder which part of their brain fell out. Get it in perspective. Yes it's a great sport. Yes the world is mad about it, but it's not more important than loved ones, and milestones in your life. If it is then you need some serious help.

If you think i'm a spoilt sport well ba humbug!

does anyone else think that the flags attached to cars and houses looks so chav?

what's chav mean? Is that a word only the locals know? :?

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

Maybe but I understand and I'll allow and even respect it.

I think we should back England to the hilt and say stuff like "England are gonna win!"

yashmaki,

The word chav isn't very northern. I thought it was basically an equivalent of northern townies, but the word implies other stuff like thinking naff things are classy and trying to be classy and look hard at the same time in a fake burberry cap and a tracksuit with a dog on a leash, smoking a cigarette or even a cigar for a rich chave. Think stereotypical Essex boys and girls but trying to be street. Anyway the way LilSis used it, it just means common and naff and cheap. But it is the national flag!

I'm sure people who normally use it as a far right symbol are happy they can fly it without recrimination, but it is also a good opportunity for everyone to get into a community spirit and sod the far right. The way our flag is perceived is a great shame. I have a couple of items of stylish clothing with the flag on, and I hesitate in case people will think wearing them is an expression of hate, and that is quite a shame. It's because I'm white people might think that.

But not to the point where we're chanting WW2 songs and doing the Nazi salute as the radio was saying this morning, number of Brits been arrested in Germany for this.... muppets.

I was editing and expanding my post a bit just then so it looks different. Anyway, you're spot on.

I bet anything Germany will beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the opening match.

I have a fake burberry cap and I'm most fond of it. I bought it on an unexpectedly sunny day from a bargain shop in Manchester when I couldn't see past the windscreen for the glare and needed to get to London, and I am delighted it has a following, no matter what.

Omrow, come back man. Juma Mubarak!

..Your comment reminds me of the time I recieved a massive lecture 10 odd years ago cos I supported England instead of Pakistan in the Cricket finals.

I don't think that anyone should be under any obligation to support any specific country.

Alistair Campbell has got himself a [url= Blog[/url].

He has already been hit with a classic reply:

Quote:
"Alastair, if Iran find themselves behind at half time, do you think they'll be able to launch a counter-attack in the following 45 minutes? Excellent!! Alastair, maybe you could take a few free kicks for England - although, with the amount spin you´d put on it, it'd end up in your own goal!!!"

Thing is m ost internationals are boring.

Most matches throughout the world cup will be boring.

People will confuse tension with football, and say wow.

It was a lovely match. Easy does it, we got off to a good start in blistering heat and we're top of the group. Paraguay's a great team and in the second half they tested England quite a bit but England gave as good as they got and pulled off a comfortable victory. That substitute wasn't up to much, kept trying to do something Giggsy on the wing but even Giggs has wasted a lot of those and all he had to do was be part of the team. Still he didn't look too bad. Everyone else was very exciting, we're very deep.

I reckon it's going to be a great World Cup. On Friday Germany will beat Costa Rica 4-2 and Ecuador will whoop Poland 2-0 which should all be pretty exciting, and on Saturday the game between Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago will end 0-0 and England will beat Paraguay fairly comfortably 1-0 and go on to win the World Cup. Hooray!

that's just freaky. has there been some match-fixing going on?! Blum 3

Wow. 1-0 against the mighty Paraguay and the fans are celebrating like they've won the tournament. A reality check is needed. Yes ok it was hot etc but the 2nd half performance was crap.

I don't support England, in fact I can't wait for them to get knocked out. I remember supporting Brazil against them last world cup and when France pipped them in the first match of Euro 2004. That was funny. Reasons why I dont support them -

They go OVERBOARD!!! The media, the fans, etc etc. When they win its everywhere and they never shut up about it. OK they've a right to revel in their sucess but keep it in perspective.

IF they win this world cup we'll NEVER hear the last of it. 1966! Let it go that was donkeys years ago for God's sake! Pakistan won the cricket world cup in 1992 but thats history now, we've let go!

They are the best at making excuses when they lose. If there was a world cup for making excuses, they'd win every time!

The pre-tournament hype and arrogance is unbelievable, so cocky. We're gonna do this, we're gonna do that. In Rooney they have an excellent striker but in Sven they have a coach who doesnt really know what he's doing.

Most asians I know dont support england and no one in my family does. Here's to football coming home...... early. Biggrin

The media, government, tried to blow us, but they can't out the flame, or doubt the name.

I thought at least you might be funny but you're not.

Well there is hype becasue we ARE IN ENGLAND! WHat do you expect? everyone to support germany?
