Why do people Sin?

Person who acts wrongly has no belief.

True faith must be that which stops you acting against it.

For example, if you want to live, then would you drink poison, knowing for sure it is indeed poison?

If you do not wish to upset God, then would you do anything that you KNOW would upset Him?

Please keep it real.

Always an interesting subject.

Why do we sin? hmm simple we are humans and unfortunately are tempted by satans way (man i hate that guy) but cant blame it all on him, we are accountable of our own actions and have to fight our nafs to get closer to Allah (swt)

Here's a little story..There was once a man who kept on committing sin and then repenting until he commit the sin for the 70th or 99th time cnt rember, he felt ashamed thinking “what if this time i repent and it is thrown back in my face“, later someone (sent by Allah (swt)) came up to this man and said " Allah is so merciful you may have given up but Allah (swt) is all-giving and merciful so how could you think that your repentance would not be accepted?

Basically one should not lose hope and remember that Allah (swt) is merciful and when one asks Allah (swt) for true forgiveness then Allah bestows his mercy upon the sinner and forgives him!

Salam

People only sin if they dont really BELIEVE that what they are doing IS a sin.

Nobody sins who actually believes their action is a sin.

God's Prophets came to convince us that such and such deeds are sins.

Whether or not we are convinced is another matter.

thats not necessarily true - its easy to 'know' something, but much harder to actually practice upon it. there are many little things which we may know are contrary to islamic beliefs (which, being muslim, we believe in) but it still may take a bit of battling with our nafs, and hence strong iman, to actually refrain from doing such a sin.

Ignorance is not one of the reasons why people sin. In order for something to be classified as a sin, one has to KNOW that it is a sin in Islam.

Having said that, knowledge on its own is futile as well; mere knowledge can NOT help us renounce wrongdoings.

For instance, we sin 24/7; do we not know that Allah (swt) can see us? Do we not know that the angels are writing every thing down? Do we not know that we be accountable for our actions on the Day of Judgement? –course we do, this is common knowledge.

However this does not stop us from sinning, this proves that knowledge does not provide us with Taqwa, nor does it provide us with protection or makes us renounce our wrongdoings.

It’s the feeling from within which makes a difference, which is known as “Ihsan”.

Ihsan is to “to worship Allah (swt) as if you see him”. Ihsan is the feeling that comes from within.

Ihsan is what Angel Gabriel asked about when he visited the Holy Prophet (saw).

If Islam had consisted of just belief and action, then Angel Gabriel would not have asked about Ihsan.

Ihsan takes us beyond the limits of faith and practice, towards the horizons of spiritual excellence/perfection. ….and is the only way to get connected with Allah (swt) and renounce wrongdoings.

If one did not know it was a sin they were committing then how would one ask for repentence and be able to receive Allah's (swt) mercy? Allah (swt) loves those sinners who ask forgiveness from Him..

Because God made us like that.

dont blame it all on free will

free will means we have a CHOICE whether we choose to sin or not

we cant say on the DJ of judgement that we sinned cos u gave us free will

we are given free will but like lilsis said that cant be used as an excuse becuz we have the Quran and Sunnah which we should turn to in order to receive the correct info. but we also have a free will to repent for our sins and not to commit them again.

People have always sinned from the year dot and will continue to do so.

Should the question not be 'why people don't sin'?

I think a better way of saying that would be 'How to avoid Sin?'

Fear of Allah (swt)
Rememberance of Allah (swt) and the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him)
Read Quran etc
Hanging about with good people who are practising..
Or if you cnt find good people then sit alone

It is said that one should sit alone rather than in company of bad people and it is also said one should sit in the company in those closer to Allah (swt) rather than in seclusion as sittin in the company of a saint is better than 100 years of sincere worship!

People sin either beacuse of their lack of knoledge, their surroundings and their parents.

But ask for forgiveness is what I say a lot because Allah is the most merciful.

"Purity is half of faith.......Prayer is the light...patience is illumination; and the Quran is an argument for or against you. Everyone starts his day and is a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or bringing about its ruin." Muslim

its not cos of lack of knowldge

but i agree with u that it's cos of surroundings sumtimes

we sin because we can, not because we don't think its a sin.

It is said in the qu'ran Allah prefers the repentance of someone then someone who is good and prays, or something along them lines.
I also read somewhere that Allah prefers a world where half the people are believers and half the people are sinners or something like that which kinda confused me cos i thoughtit would make Allah more happy if we all believed but i guess then if we all believed automatically from birth and never questioned our faith then that would be boring i guess. anyway take care y'all,

Allah Au Akbar!

Allah Hafis!

The reason Allah (swt) would have liked half of the word to belivers and the other half sinners is cuz Allah (swt) is pleased when a sinner bows down in front of Him and cries to receive forgiveness..

^^^ thats providing the sinner repents

many sinners couldnt care less and almost never repent

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

Of course but Allah (swt) is very merciful that he likes to give chances to his people so he can forgive them..

Bcoz they think they can get away with it.

"I'll sin now... and repent later"

But Gods watching them... oh yes.... and he will smite them and smite them good.

You can't play a game with Allah(swt) because he is all wise you can't just do a sin and then repent and keep on doing that. When you repent you should have a very sincere intention that you won't do that again and Allah will know because he can see through all hearts.

The main reason why people sin is cos they do not have strong Iman (Belief).

As Muslims we are required to believe in the seven articles of faith, including belief in the Almighty, the Day of judgement and the hereafter.

If we really and truly believed at all times in the fate that awaits us in the hereafter, we would not be living our life in Ghafla (heedlessness).

If we truly believed in the existence of a Superior being, had unshakable, absolute belief in His existence. ……And if we were fully aware at all times of the fate that awaits us in the hereafter….if we 101% believed that eternal d**nation that awaits us if we live our life in disobedience….

We would never ever intentionally sin.

Our Iman needs to be strengthened.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Although anyone in the right mind wouldn't intentionally sin, someone who’s not in the right frame of mind will. For example some who is incredibly depressed may intentionally sin in an attempt of escapism from their woes.

if someone sins and they aint in the right state of mind then it aint a sin is it?

this is why mentally insane can not be punsihed according to Islam

Pindu = Commoner from a village, simply folk.

Bottonline: Theres a difference between insane and 'not in the right frame of mind' bcoz being angry can cause you to be 'not in the right frame of mind' yet we punish people who do terrible things while in a fit of rage.
