How Fit Are You?

Salaam

Hadrat Ali (ra) said “Refresh your minds from time to time, for a tired mind becomes blind”.

Men AND women are in need of being active…we should keep our bodies as well as our mind and soul fresh, active and healthy.

And this cos of physical benefits as well as psychological benefits…

Between the ages of 9-12 I was in to bike riding…dad taught me how to ride a bike and would take me to the park all the time…In primary school I used to play basket ball for my school..(I wasn’t that good cos I was too short)…in high school I was involved in running and playing badminton…dad also got me involved in that too…Dad and me used to play badminton a lot, I become really good…. my college sometimes took us water rafting and stuff like that…

Playing sports always used to make me feel good...I was always involved in something. After college, I’ve done nothing…mainly because I don’t have the time, nor can I afford to join a gym which in my area all priced between £50-70 monthly…

So, are active are you? Are there any restrictions on the kinds of sports that a Muslim can get involved in?

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and his beloved wife Hadrat Aisha (ra) used to race together….

Of course modesty should at all times be implemented…for men AND women…so what exactly is it that we can or can’t do?

Obesity is a massive problem, particularly in the Asian community…its cos our diet which is full of oil and spices…it’s so important to look after yourself…

How important is it to keep your body fit and healthy? What are the benefits of doing so?

Share your thoughts..

Wasalaam

I do a little Tai Chi every now and then...

altho i find im doing it less and less due to constraints on my schedule.

That and constant distractions.

Back in BLACK

I been extremely lazy of late, so much so I went to the doctor and he told me to sort my diet and fitness out.

It was due to the fact that we naturally get lazy when you get alittle bit older. Take playing football. It was something I used to do regularly 1-3 a week, but playing with some of the 20 years old, who tend to have alot of energy and do alot of running, kind of took the motivation away from me as I couldn't complete with their stamina. Same with Boxing and Gym Training. It all stem from motivation. I blame the fact it get dark early as it make you lazy, in the summer you can do much more. But saying that, I going to start my routine on the 1st December and will lose at least a stone maybe 2, well that the aim at least.

well no surprise there lazy yuit

I used to be more active before and fit but lately since I have been workin all i do is sit in the call centre or at uni i just sit in the lectures and by the time i get home i am drained out, I really wanted to join the gym but its hard to fit it in. But seriously i need to get fit again, by the time i climb a few stairs i am out of breath  Its all about commitment.

The benefits of stayin healthy means you dont get lazy/tired easily and you are able to stay away from illness and obesity which can wear a person down, also meanin you can stay awake a lot and remeber Allah (swt) and the Holy Prophet (saw)....boy i am soo lazy

assalamu alaikum,

Same as you sis, I was very much into sports in secondary school. I would never go home once school ended me and my friends stayed over 2 or 3 hours doing sports, or helping supervise smaller kids. Some of my best memories, and yes it makes you feel great.

Once I got into Uni there was a lack of time, and I didn't really want to join a mixed gym at uni. Private gyms for just women can cost a lot, so I'm restricted there.

I can't think of any sports that would be restricted by Islam...let me think that one over. The only restrictions for me are gender based, hijab issues.
I'd love to go swimming but I'd only do that in my own private pool. I wouldn't feel comfy even amongst other women.

I've always been fascinated by horses. I love horses, I'd love to horse ride but that can be an expensive hobby in this country.

My husband used to be a gym freak before he married. He doesn't get much time for gyms now, and coz of the expenses he tends to jog now before fajr. But jogging alone can be boring, he loses motivation, so he's asked me to jog him.

The only thing I'm worried about is my hijab. I can't wear a jilbab for jogging it's not practical, I'll trip over it. He bought me some baggy jogging gear. Since all the ladies stuff seems to be fitted, he got me a mens hoody. I've tried it on. Hood up with a face veil tucked in, cargo trousers, and trainers, mm i doubt there's another niqabi like me for miles hahah. Well it's dark out early morn, and hardly no one about, so I should be ok insha'Allah. I've not been without a jilbab so I'm still para...gona feel naked. But I want to do some sort of sport, this seems like a good option.

Hayder. You're not fat. Lol ROFL

You must have put on a heck of alot of weight in the past 2 months.

I thought this thread was about 'fitness', not 'fatness'.

You can be thin and still be unhealthy...

God forbid for a couple of minutes I actually though you may have been wrong about something  , but the Doc put me back into place.

But health does affect ur imaan as well. When i feeling more healthy, i am willing to push it that extra little bit, that extra nafl namaaz or something similar. But if i feeling unhealthy and lazy then i tend to think I done enough for one day. But i think for men they can get away with being slightly fat, it look good on them IMO. Smile Plus we tend to lose it quicker as well.

Super fit and a physical specimen Smile

The media, government, tried to blow us, but they can't out the flame, or doubt the name.

Actually that's the next thing on our list, hubby is getting us a set of bikes, so we can go cycling together, either late evening or early morning when no ones around. I can ride a bike, but I never mastered going up curbs...now don't laugh at me looool. He's gona have to teach me hahaha. I can skate though, unfortunately hubs can't.

Long as you're covered in some baggy clothes, to hell with what ppl say. You should get a mate or your sis to join you muslimsislilsis, go for it. One of my best mates lives up in London she goes bike riding alone, in her hijab. I wouldn't have the courage to do that, brave gal.

BTW jogging is torture, when my husband wasn't looking I walked for a bit lol. I'll get used to it in a few weeks, been ages since I've done this.

I can give you a few tips. Losing weight is 75% DIET and 25% exercise! Don't skip b/fast, eat about 6 times a day if u can, small meals, it increases ur metabolism. Eat protein as this also increases ur metab. Beginnin to sound like a body builders diet now lol.

Exercise-wise, try and do something, even if its walking. Try and keep off the kebabs and samosas lol.
