I have noticed this a lot, mothers say to their children don't do this or else Allah Almighty will be angry with you.

And many people when they encourage anyone to do anything good rather than saying do this and Allah Almighty will be happy with you they say if you do this then you will be faced with the following punishment etc. causing fear in the hearts of people.

I feel that this rather than attracting people towards Islam takes them away from Islam because they start having a bad image of Islam, as a religion, which is very strict and full of punishments, but shouldn't we be telling them the rewards of good deeds and how the good deeds will take them closer to Allah Almighty rather than the evil deeds taking them away from Allah Almighty?

will get back with a proper answer on this one InshaAllah

' Nay, verily! With me is my Lord, He will guide me ' {2662}

fear, because this life is a test, we either fail or pass.. therefore we must do our best and fear the punishment Allah (swt) can send our way, whether it be in this life or the akhira (hellfire)

' Nay, verily! With me is my Lord, He will guide me ' {2662}

do you not do a test in hope of passing and gettin in the examiners good books?

or do u do it jus so u dont fail?

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

if u pass, u get in the examiners good books dont u, because u did the right thing?

' Nay, verily! With me is my Lord, He will guide me ' {2662}

you did the right thing with the intention of pleasing the examiner then didnt u?

rather than not to make him angry

which is the point Amber is getting at

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

truthfully truthfully speaking i guess fear maybe sez it more,

me reading what happens after death put bad effect on me i think,

which makes me think more about punishment than anything else

BUT i do believe in order to stay put every1 needs taqwa.

without TAQWA noone would be able to abstain from that which ALLAH swt) has forbidden and U need it in order to succeed.

so having said that , fear of punishment in next life awakens my taqwa also fear of punishment in this life, but i pray for more it aint enough to keep me put.

SO i fear ALLAH swt more.

Fear derived from Taqwa goes hand in hand with love

fear and love Allah SWT

fear Him because you love Him, and you dont want to upset someone you love

however if u only fear someone but have no love for him, u need 2 question your relationship in perspective to ur Lord.

End of day, the purpose of life is to become close to Allah SWT, and in order to do that we need to love Him so we can get close, but also fear him so we dont become un-attached

if that makes any sense!

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

Fantastic point Hayder! I agree with you

I strongly feel that love of Allah (swt) should be stronger then fear of Him…

This is because when one loves someone…nothing is too much trouble for them…one goes out of their way to please their Beloved….they do MORE then what is expected of them.

This not applicable to “fear” of someone….if you’re scared of someone; you only do what is required from you in order to escape punishment.

And I agree that, we should only fear not pleasing the One we claim to love.

I believe there is a certain Hadis where The Holy Prophet SAW praises a Sahabi RA saying how adorable is this Sahabi RA that even if there was no Paradise or Hell he RA would still do good and refrain from bad because he RA loves Allah SWT.

Great topic n also sensible Biggrin

It gets u thinkin wen u hav to choose 4rm fear n pleasure as i do both. But like many others sed we shuld try n build our luv wid Allah (swt) n also the holy prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) becoz u cannot separate the 2.

Fear can help u refrain 4rm sins n pleasure can please u in many wayz n also build ur luv.

N yes! there r many ahadiths of the holy prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) bout sahabi's (ra) n also the Awliya Allah.

I have been mainly taught fear of Allah, ie you will get punished if you dont do this etc. But now i like to think of it as, if i sin i will be goin against Allah (swt) and the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and this will in turn upset them, also no one can love you more than Allah (swt) and the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) so we should please them first, the rest come later.

god does not love us that much u crazy person!!!

Another major misunderstanding throughout the world today, is that God loves everyone and everything. This concept is illogical. Why would God love those who are spreading corruption on earth, killing the innocent, torturing the weak and disabled, robbing people of their belongings and freedom, polluting our environment, raping women or girls and abusing our children?. Why should God love someone like Hitler , Stalin, Mao or any other tyrant? !!. These are our enemies and God's enemies. Some people commit evil and blaspheme regularly, disregard commandments and do not believe in the One who created and provides for them. If God loved us all unconditionally, why would we uphold commandments? Why would God even issue any command if He loves us regardless of what we do? Surely, if God loved us all unconditionally, we would all have a license to commit the worst of evils while assured that we will end up in Heaven. This would throw the world into a state of chaos and disorganization that will end any meaningful civilization. Quran gives us the Truth in this matter. Each trait that God does not love, dislikes and worse is specifically laid out in the Quran. For example God does not love: the aggressors (2:190); corruption, corruptors (see 2:205, 28:77); the unjust (3:57, 140; 42:40); the arrogant (4:36; 16:23; 28:76); the betrayer, guilty (4:107; 8:58); the evildoers (5:64); the wasters (6:141); the gluttons (7:31); the transgressors (7:55); the disbelievers (3:32; 30:45); betrayer, unappreciative (22:38) and the boastful, proud (57:23).

As believers would like to strive to imbibe all the values and virtues which earn GOD's love, additional aspects reflected in Quran are - God loves: the repenters (2:222); those who love GOD and follow GOD's messenger, those who obey GOD and His messenger (please read 3:31- 32); those who love GOD (5:54); those who will be kind with the believers and stern with the disbelievers and strive in the cause of GOD without fear of any blame (5:54 - conflict context indicated in 5:52), believe and lead a righteous life (see 19:96).

God loves us despite all our faults.

If He didn't He'd destroy us all. However, He gives us respite so that we may repent and amend our ways.
