Are You A Morning Person?

Salaam

I’m not a morning person….I never have been. I sort of “wake up” at night…..if I ever need to work on something I start in the evening cos that’s when I’m most focused and full of energy.

I’ve always struggled to get out of bed before 9.00….and if I am out of bed before nine I’m half asleep….(unlike mum I’m not a chirpy early bird)

Fajr prayer is the most important prayer of the day.

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) tells us that fajr Salaah along with Isha Salaah is particularly rich in blessings….

"If people only knew what blessings are in the fajr and Isha prayer, they would come to them, even if they had to crawl." (Bukhari and Muslim)

I find it SO hard to get up for Fajr, I’m up on most days but I’m always sleepy…and as soon as I’ve read Fajr I get back into bed without even bothering to pack the prayer mat away…. (I’ve heard that one really shouldn’t go back to sleep after Fajr)

If Fajr is say at 5.00 then I set my alarm clock for 4.30…cos I always spend 30 mins snoozing and thinking about getting out of bed.

Apparently back in the day people didn’t even need alarm clocks cos they would automatically wake up at Fajr/Tahajid time…those people had spiritual alarm clocks built in them...

Allah (swt) loves people those who deprive their sides from their beds, resist sleep (which the body loves) and rise for prayer, for the sincere sake of earning the pleasure of Allah (swt).

Someone once asked Hadrat Aisha (raa) about the most amazing thing she observed about the Holy Prophet (saw). She said “Everything about him was incredible. But I will say this, when the veiling of the night came, and when every lover went to his lover, he Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) went to be with his Lord”.

Too much sleep hardens our hearts…we’re programmed to believe that we need our “beauty sleep” and must get at least 6/8 hors of sleep every night…yet the likes of the Great Imam Abu Hanifah was known to read his Fajr prayer with his Isha wudhu for 40 years continuously…How come many of us are weak when it comes to missing our precious sleep?

Any tips on how to be more fresh and alert at Fajr time?

I heard that the way one behaves during the day plays a strong part in this…. A man once told a righteous man “I am unable to maintain night worship, prescribe a remedy for me”. The righteous man said “Do not disobey Him during the day and He will keep you up between His hands at night”....Is our lack of Iman the reason why we struggle with Fajr?

What’s your Fajr situation like?

Wasalaam

Never, ever used an alarm clock in my life. Don't need them. Normally wake up before fajr. If I need to be up exceptionally early for some reason, I tell myself that, with Allaah's help, I will wake up. And I do.

Can't tell you how.. I've always been like this. My darling Dad used to wake up for fajr and I'd be up a little after him, even when I was a nipper. I can just get by on 3-5 hours sleep a night.

Im a morning person like 95% of the time.

I wake up with a tune n my heart and a skip in my walk... metaphorically ofcourse. Morning is when im most chilled out and mellow.

Waking up in the morning has a lot to do with how you slept last night IMO. Now when i say 'how you slept?' i dont mean hw much sleep you got? but in which position you fell asleep in.

I havent fully worked it out and im sure ive heard somewhere that depending on the position you fall asleep in will affect your mood when you wake up. Maybe theres more to this, but i cant remember right about now.

Anyone else heard anything like this?

It is Sunnah to sleep on your right side. There is hadith on this.. and when I snap out of my lazy mode, remind me to find it.

But, science has caught up with Islam and discovered that, sleeping on your back restricts breathing by constricting your trachea and also by the space around your lungs being diminished by the pressure of your ribs. People who sleep on their backs tend to breathe through their mouth, hence allowing more bacteria into the system, that the nasal membrane filters; they are also, for this reason, more prone to bad breathe.

Sleeping on your tummy causes the backbone to press down against the lungs and heart, resulting in shortness of breathe - babies who are paid on their fronts are more likely to be victims of cot-death.

Sleeping on your left side puts pressure on the main arteries leading out of the heart - i.e, affects blood flow. Also, the bronchi in the left lung are vertical, so laying on that side squeezes them so it's harder to breathe out laying on your left. The bronchi in the right lung are lateral, so very little affect is had on them by sleeping on that side.

Bet you hadn't asked now, eh Eeyore? Lol

I always sleep on my right side. I'm most comfortable like that, its sunnah (and that side gives me a view of the sky in my window).

But I do sleep pretty late...

i sleep very very late as most of you can tell!!

and i find it hard to get up early, still trying to adjust as university has now re-started :?

i can oversleep my alarm for fajr easily, thats why i keep a fajr-buddy....wakes u up wen its fajr time

still takes about 9 calls to wake me up.....9 on each of 3 fones Blum 3

if i sleep on my right, my back is facing the Qibla (as i do  )

so the solution would be turn the bed upside down.....but that puts my head near the door :?

So when someone says, 'someone got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning', they should be saying, 'someone went to bed on the wrong side last night'.

That saying is from an old English superstition that says it's bad luck to step out of bed with the left foot first.

Something we've all been accused of once or twice in this lifetime.

Annette sleeps in until 11 or so too.

Most girls I know do.

Probably because they are lazy.

Mum always screams at me and everyone makes fun of me cuz to them half of the day has gone by..i duno i think somethin is seriously wrong with me, i dont even realise its 11:30 untill i look at my clock and then decide to jump out of bed....

How can i get up early, any advice appreciated!

Mornings are nice because there are few people around to bother you and you can get your workout routine in without sacrificing the day.

I tried sleeping in once and ended up rowing at 12:00

In the harbor

Never doing that again.

!

LOL

mum screams at me too

she gives it "I've been up since 3 in the morning" (who told her to get up so early?)

or she says "early to bed early to rise, makes a man healthy wealthy and wise" (I HATE silly sayings like that)

or she begins to chat about how there are blessings in morning time-I agree with that

but i too need some tips

real reason why i sleep in is cos I'm lazy and havent got anythig better to do

"irfghan" wrote:

Wow. Freddy boy is so clever. He solved our lazy problem in four little words. Where would we be without u

angel,

Practise early to bed. Get up at a fixed time each day, say 8am shouldn't shock you too much. After two weeks of trial and error at that, only go to bed when you're tired but get up at a consistent time. a) it is easy. b) sooner or later everyone gets into a pattern. c) what you go through is very normal, stop wallowing.

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

I like it. Makes sense.

well not-so-clever irf, i said in my last post that i cant go 2 sleep, i feel tired but not sleepy...if i go 2 bed at 11 i only manage to sleep at 1am!
