In his address with Clinton and Bush Snr., George Bush appealed for fund-raising. ???

Isn't this the richest country in the world? Why is it asking for charity?

Dave u probably know the situation better than me but I cant help but think that if those stranded people were mainly white then the response would have been swifter.

I m looking at the pictures and thinking to myself that this sis supposedly democratic and a superpower so why are all the starving stranded people black?

And also I would just like to say if Bush cant deal with one city suffering major problems, if he cant stop so-called democratic minded people from going around raping lil children as mentioned on cnn, then how can any1 believe he can contrlol iraq?

here no1 can say the hurricane was caused directly by bush, nor can they say bush is an invader or that he wants to steal the cities wealth yet still bush is not getting control over the city so when bush is directly responsible for iraq, bush is an invader, bush is looting the countries wealth then how can he EVER hope to control the country.

I feel sorry for the people and would love to see Tablighi Jamaat go there and assist the ppl as they did when the floods came in india.

It's not a black white thing - I dunno if any of yall ever visited the south but it's mostly black people who live here prolly 70/30. What you are watching is a failure of the Bush admin to prepare - they seemed to think the hurricane would come and go and that would be it.

Like I said before a lot of people stayed because they couldn't afford to leave or were unable to for medical reasons - thus it is no surprise there are a lot of poor people still stuck in NO.

You are right though - Bush is making the same mistakes he makes in Iraq - it is pretty clear he is inept for the job of stablizing these situations.

The headline at ABC says it all.

That's from Mayor Nagin who basically bitched out the administration for its failure to do anything about the situation. You can listen to the full interview with the Mayor on CNN - it's absolutely heartbreaking what he is describing and how pathetic the federal response is.

He's a good Southerner. I liked him more when he was a Republican - but not too thrilled with the Reps at the moment.

It's the way we do things here... always has been. The government helps but we place a strong emphasis on the public sector to help as well.

Not to mention there are many private citizens who want to help but don't know who to call - it's just good to organize these things.

yea seriously - no multicelled organism take them seriously.

I noticed they don't have Mayor Nagin's interview.

Gee I wonder why.

Prolly was more of a political statement to have 2 presidents flanking him than much else.

But it is expected - if Americans don't see a response by and for the public they will not be amused.

It's about national community... it's hard to describe.

listening to the Mayor of New Orleans on the news....

"..goddamn...excuse my french everybody in USA - I am P*ssd"

poor fella

whislt i feel bad for the people, i seriously dont feel for the city or the country

Well all that destruction is terrible.

Islamically it is better to ask many for donations than one person doing it all anyway.

It forms a strong bond in the community.

how can you say you feel bad for the victims but not the city? The city was where these ppl built their lives. Everything they ever had was in that now destroyed city. I don't think you can really separate the two.

It's like iraq. you could say i feel for the ppl but to hell with the devestation on the land? Ppls homes have been destroyed. I don't understand your comments, in fact they anger me.

my apologies if i have angered you. all i meant is.....they had warning, iraq and those in the tsunami didnt. somewhere along the line....sum1 is at fault for the scale of devestation. the Bush adminstration isnt handling the situation really well either.

the city - filled with clubs, beach resorts, casinos etc - i couldnt care if theyve gone. however i feel sorry for the people. i think theres a diffrence. you dont have to agree with me!

i get your point hayder bro and i think i agree.

I think the clubs and pubs and casinos had it coming but doesnt stop me from feeling sorry for the people cos they just dont knw whats it mean to be human and live within boundaries.

So I take it you wouldn't be disappointed by the destruction of dubai because of all the beaches and clubs... or London with all it's pubs.

Or how about that historic sexual cesspool Istanbul with it's harems etc?

As I said earlier I have never been enthralled with New Orleans. They have that ungodly mardis gras celebration and hoodoo is rampant among the poor in the french quarter.

However those are the excesses of the city - the lowest common denominator, and I wouldn't wish the entire city away because of it's sore spots.

People have lost their homes, churches, mosques (they are - were - host to one of the largest muslim communities in the South) small businesses - most of which being perfectly respectable, schools, parks, the list goes on ad infinitum. I don't see how somebody could not care about the city and offer token condolences to "the people." The city is the people - they are dependent upon it.

They are now refugees.

I agree with Yashmaki.

I don't think I will miss the casinos or nightclubs - but I will miss the City. And honestly if you asked somebody from New Orleans what they missed the most I highly doubt they would list bars, casinos, or mardis gras. That doesn't seem like a natural human reaction. I'm guessing most of them will miss their homes, neighborhoods - neighbors, and communities. The stuff you would miss if your home town was destroyed. Or would you miss that bar a couple blocks down or on the other side of the city you don't visit and don't particularly care about?

maybe so....but i still only feel for the common folk

buildings etc have no value, besides religious ones

Surely you can see the link though?

A "building" is someones home.

Imagine how you'd feel if your home was destroyed.

Lives have been ruined because buildings (i.e homes and livelihood) have been destroyed.

And yet they have value to the people that built them, grew up in and with them and depended on them.

I see you are starting to make exceptions now...

Did anybody notice the very generous (and nearly ignored) gesture from Sri Lanka?

They donated something like 25,000 dollars to the Red Cross to help the people in the gulf.

Meanwhile they haven't even recovered from the tsunami.

If a disaster comes to any place we cant say for definite that it is only a test or it is only a punishment.

With me if a disaster came to a muslim locality, i would say that due to the presence of casinos/pubs/clubs etc ALLAH sends His punishment to us sinners. With non-muslims I cant say either way what it is - punishment or test? with muslims i feel more stronger to say that it is our own fault by and large; true for the very few who are pious in that locality the disaster is nothing more than a test, but for the vast majority of muslims i would say it is a punishment from ALLAH and a warning to us that we better mend our ways.

When a disaster strikes muslims my immediate rseponse that it is because of our sins nothing else. And our means OUR UMMAH not just the sins of the people in that particular locality.

New Orleans is now a ghost town.

Thousand of people have perished in the the city of New Orleans.

People of the city, as well as the Mayor and the Governor, are saying that blame of these deaths lies with President Bush.

The Mayor, Ray Nagin, even swore at the President using the f***ing expletive on live television .

The victims claim that the President fails to send food and medicine for the starving people. Instead he sends in troops to shoot the people dead who are looting food and pills from the super markets.

Omrow

That's pretty much dead on.

They keep putting off the superdome evac because they want to first establish law and order.

We aren't Germans - there is a such thing as multitasking.

I present to you - the Federal Evacuation Strategy:

Step 1: Start thinking about establishing law and order
Step 2: Initial planning phases of establishing law and order
Step 3: Identify causes of lack of law and order
Step 4: Lunch
Step 5: Identify plan for establishing law and order
Step 6: Announce plan to public
Step 7: Blame other people who are actually under your supervision for present failures
Step 8: Initiate planning session for implimentation of plan for establishing law and order

step 23: Establish Law and Order

Step 106: Bring food and water to victims

Step 9930078239948829349: Evacuate

A shoot to kill policy to stop looters?

I am surprised how much of a piority has been given to stop lootings, and not to other more important things!

I guess its more important to protect those that may bankroll your campaigns.

Nice to see they have got their priorities right.

Food, water and shelter can wait.

Sometimes, you have to ask for help. Other times you just have to swallow your arrogance, and just accept.

Germany, France, Russia, Japan, Honduras and Sri Lanka are among countries that said they would send aid. A special United Nations task force is ready to help also, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.

And some times use what you have. There may be a reason for this, but it seems a waste of a resource for moving people.

(However I do disagree with loads on that blog, mostly the other stuff trying to link Iraq with 9/11 etc... and saying global warming has nothing to do with anything... its something that cannot be ruled out outright!)

Wow... that's disgraceful.

I don't see anywhere that mayor nagin has addressed why those are there...

As for the rest of the blog looks like a lot of their info comes from matt drudge - he basically just tows the party line.

He'd make a splendid communist.

As for the kind asistance offered by the world, I am just pleased to see we aren't completely hated.

Might surprise you but americans do not understand why people don't like us anymore.

Well it seems the US has decided to accept help from the EU.

(That blog is totally probush. The only that geezer posted about the buses was to defend bush. Occasionally nutters are right.)

one man shouted from some high place that all his family is dead, he has no1 to live for and then jumped off and killed himself.
