"The people of Israel have the right to live without constant fear for their security"

After Israel's ongoing attacks on Gaza, the British foreign secretary Mr William Hague released a statement on tuesday 9 July 2014. Mostly condemning the Palestinians.

The bit of his statement that caught my eye was the following:

"The people of Israel have the right to live without constant fear for their security"

No they don't.

Not until they give the same reciprocal right to their neighbours and their ocuppied.

Israelis do not have an automatic right to safety and security as long as the Palestinians are occupied and oppressed by them.

Israelis do not have the right to live without constant fear for their security until they give security to the Palestinians.

Peace is not one sided. As long as the Israelis remain aggressors against others, their victims have a right to retaliate and while it is not for us to call for or want any violent reaction, it is just and moral for us to stand with the oppressed and provide context for their actions.

Khaled Meshaal, the political leader of Hamas gave a conference on Wednesday (yesterday).

In it he confirmed that it was Israel who broke the 2012 ceasefire.

He also confirmed that Hamas was willing to go back to a ceasefire, with simple and straight forward terms for Israel to:

  1. Stop offensive, stop airstrikes,
  2. abide by '12 ceasefire terms,
  3. release rearrested prisoners,
  4. respect unity govt

Out of all those, the hardest for Israel is number 4 - it is currently punishing the Palestinians for daring to form a unity government and will do anything to try and fragment the Palestinians.
