Dear leader Kim jong il dies

North Koreans are in mourning after the death of their dear leader, Kim Jong-il.

People wept openly on the streets of the capital, Pyongyang. State media said he had suffered a heart attack on Saturday, aged 69. He had been unwell.

The official news agency KCNA described one of his sons, Kim Jong-un, as the "great successor" whom North Koreans should unite behind.

Pyongyang's neighbours are on alert fearing instability in the poor and isolated nuclear-armed nation.

surely they cant have loved them tht much to cry like tht? thats taking nationalism (right word?) to the next level

"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah, do hearts find rest"

Why couldnt they?

He was their only second leader ever who kept America at bay.

Media was also tightly controlled so many wouldnt know better.

nationalism (right word?)

yes but be wary when people use this word. a lot of people mistranslate assabiyyah from arabic into english as nationalism. it is not the same thing.

Assabiyyah simply means solidarity, and the type not allowed is defined in hadith as "supporting your people in a cause that is wrong" - so even solidarity is not wrong until you support something that is wrong, and this solidarity which may be right or wrong doesnt apply to nation states only, but to family, friends, even the Muslim ummah.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

Suppose they could. not a usual thing for people to love their leaders like tht though, especially here. just strange to see them crying like tht, cnt imagine doing tht for family let alone anyone else.
