Or you're looking waaaaaaay too hard :L

USUALLY? So occassionally looking at thighs is ok... sorry, but I thought doing haram once or many times was haram....

according to the maliki's it's not haraam though. btw did u provide proof for that?

And you know what i was watching the spain v switzerland match and i kept thinking about this topic and concentrating on whether i could see the thighs or not :/

BTW can you believe spain lost????/ ...am i the only one who likes them?
And Argentina 4-1 Smile

LOL So now you're a maliki because someone annonymous posted that on an internet forum! That's God's religion for you - pick and choose what you want so long you can do what you want - forget considering the most strongest view, the one that has evidence supporting it, the most consistent with one's existing views and premises!

Sincerity is important in following Islam - it's not a joke!

With that question, you seem to assume sitting and purposefully watching men who show their thighs for an hour or two is the SAME as someone leaving the house and glancing at something forbidden - is that your assumption or don't you think before you ask questions?

NO WHERE did i claim to be a Hanafi, Malaki, Shafi' or ermm that i follow Imam Ahmad Abn Hambal.
AND i asked you if you had provided proof for it or not. i was NOT taking what you said as "my religion".
Seriously, stop making accusations.

How lovely and pedantic are you.

Obviously I meant that occasionally by accident it may have happened but that generally showing thighs is not an intrinsic part of football.

From the fact that you're answering to thighs occasionally shown by suggesting it's a few times too many, I can logically deduce that you're agreeing with the fact that the majority of the time they aren't?

Why, thank you for agreeing (:

ERMM IT'S CALLED "FOOTBALL"

NOT "MEN SHOWING THIGHS (who btw are kicking a football around)"

People are not staring at the thighs.

There are 1.5 billion plus Muslims in the world, hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of scholars and the only ones that ban watching football are the Al SHabaab and Hizb Ul Islam in Somalia (AFAIK the two groups are also against television full stop, so their acitons may not be specifically targetting football). If there was an issue, I am sure there would have been an uproar by now.

Agreed that it is not a joke, however while it is extremely encouraged to stick to one madhab, we do believe all four are correct.

Picking and choosing between the madhabs while not something that is encouraged due to different methods of interpretations, is not the same as picking and choosing in religion as all four opinions are valid.

More, there is a hadith of the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) where it is mentioned that when the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) was faced with two equally halaal options, he would choose the easiest.

So while using multiple madhabs is not reccomended its not an evil as you are suggesting either. What would be evil would be to simply reject parts of Islam instead of choosing between valid opinions.

So far I have watched zero matches and I plan to continue this streak.

So wearing shorts displaying thighs is not the norm in football? Really?

You assume to much - I knew how most people were going to justify football despite haram activities going on - that's why I focused on the bit you accepted, without going into the detail of the bit you disputed to show you were wrong, to see would you even accept occassional showing of leg was wrong... interesting you don't! So maybe bikini beach volleyball should be ok too? Maybe you should encourage sisters to do it...

You wrote:

They are! Unless you argue people are staring at the ball when bikini beachball is played thus bikini beach ball being ok too? Maybe you can jump to a mazhab that will allow that too... secularism maybe?

So that makes it halal? Quran, sunnah and secularised Muslims?

Yes another modernist monstrosity! Why don't we all start adopting conflicting views?

Misquotation - this hadith was not talking about adopting multiple ijithads!

Yes - one matter is halal and haram at the same time! What nonsense! Each school believes their view to be right and the other wrong - but accept they may be wrong and the other right! They don't say both are valid simultaneously for anyone to adopt!

Just satying that being on the side of 1.5billion plus Muslims vs a single individual is a big argument and makes you ask if maybe the single individual has got it wrong this time?

It is not exactly an issue that can be ignored... (and then there is the hadith where the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) is lying down when Hadhrat ABu Bakr (ra) arrives, then hadhrat Umar (ra) and then hadhrat Uthmaan arrives when the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) finally gets up due to the shyness of hadhrat Uthmaan. Shows that things are potentially not as black and white as you say... or they may be. I am not a scholar and I am leaving this in their hands. they can rule on whether watching football is allowed or not. til I get that ruling, I will not be condemning people for watching it.)

So you have less of a problem with radio updates then? or online text talking about the score that people are keeping in touch with? How about playing football - is this ok? (your original argument was that it is a waste of time, this new argument about awrah seems to me to be just a distraction from you not liking the idea of people relaxing)

(do you like very many Muslims?)

Lol, WHO stares at football players' thighs?

Honestly, Anonymous1: I think people are more interested in the game itself.

Indeed. I'll get right on it (:

LOL Ok let's continue this logic - where are the 1.5 billion protesting against Muslim women reading the news without hijab showing their hair and half their chests plastered in make up?

Where are these Muslims who have not protested against boxing?

Where are these masses of Muslims who have not protested against their tin pot dictatorial regimes across the Arab world?

Numbers is irrelevant as I have to explain to you again and again - what is important is the evidence! Which you lack to look at men's thighs that are uncovered or women who do not cover!

Yes considering most of those here arguing it halal to watch football were saying it is haram to show the thigh, debating whether knees were included or not, it is a little hypocritical to me now they suddenly think it's halal and are all malikis - only some malikis allow it, some do not!

I still maintain it is disgraceful Muslims revolving their lives around trivia when there are serious problems and serious work to be done - I do not as you are stating say Muslims cannot have fun, have a joke or a laugh, cannot do anything trivial - the problem is when their life is full of it! At least address the points I make rather than straw man constructions! (And yes, this is how you use the term straw man!)

Lol

You're not quite as subtle as before with your irony, but your still pretty funny. Congrats!

Don't just do something! Stand there.

See they're wearing Hijabs.

So clearly they do maintain their Muslim identity (:
