that avatar is menacing, plus that dude is dead isn't he?

Yeah, Heath Ledger is dead - but saying that, this is probably the least menacing picture you could find of his incarnation of The Joker.

Anyway, two weeks to go people, two weeks.

Question: Is it alright to be just a "Ramadan Muslim"?

As far as I know, the only 'proof' that our efforts/acts of worship during Ramadan are accepted is if we change as a person after Eid.

If someone were to go strait back to 'normal' (if it was a bad/sinful way of life), and just was 'good' during that month, then it might suggest that his/her Ramadan wasn't accepted. In which case I would guess that being a Ramadan Muslim wasn't ok.

But then again, it's of course preferable to being a non-Muslim.

But any efforts during the month should be for oneself, if we were to only do 'extra' to look good in front of others, and not still do it when they weren't around, then that would suggest hypocrisy.

May Allah (swt) purify all our intentions and accept all out efforts. Ameen.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

Only 4/5 days left!

Its the idea that if this is your last chance to make good on your life you'll do it extra hard. Its good to try and do things well. I hope we all feel moved in our hearts during the wonderful month of Ramadan, and that we become star gazers beneath its crescent.

I feel that if God is willing to bring heaven closer to me, then its only fair that I pay extra attention to polishing my lens. Its a shame to let the stars go to waste.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: Eat the pre-dawn meal (sahur), for it is blessed.

nothing. it's good to remember death, the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said: a wise person is the one who remembers death often.

if you have death on your mind 24/7, you are less likely to sin.

no compulsion is religion.

ramadan should be a changing point for us. we shouldn't start ramadan with the intention of being good for that month only. we need Allah, He doesn't need us.

I wasn't that long.

I remember when they used to read all of Surah Baqarah on the first night at this mosque. now they only do half of it.

Ofcourse, after the pain of the first 5 or so nights, the rest used to be very quick but now they will all be about the same time...

Happy Fasting to everyone.

Our group is starting on Sunday.

23 August 2009 = 1 Ramadan 1430

so how was everyone first taraveeh salah?

It was nice. Alhamdulillah it was a connection to the blessings of Al Hidayah, the spiritual preface regarding spiritual struggle really helped here. It makes hard things nice.

Today is the first fast for many of us. I pray we can do sabr at iftar.

Isn't that against the point of iftar?

Once the fast is open, you are not supposed to avoid the food.

(I assume you mean moderation... and not fighting over the food?)

EDIT - I think I am being facetious. Feel free to ignore me.

My first fast went swimmingly... til the moment I realised that I will be tortured by my nemesis in chief, the orange.

After that, the time could not tick slow enough til iftari.

Anyway, I ended up devouring my nemesis, so I will put that in the victory column. However like all evil erm... things, I suspect that that was not the last I saw of it. They always come back when you least expect it.
