Thursday, 08 November 2007

Veiled woman by her carA Muslim woman says she is scared to venture out after being ordered to take off her veil in a terrifying ordeal.

Kauser Bibi was in Oldham Town Centre when she says a man began following her and asking her to take off her veil.

"I had just been to the Halifax bank when this guy started shouting 'Oi' at me. I just carried on walking and ignored him at first. Lots of people were there watching and no-one seemed to notice what was going on.

"He followed me and started shouting at me. I walked towards my car but then things got ugly.

"He kept saying Take your bloody veil off - I want to see your face'. He stood in front of my car and then when I tried to reverse started kicking my car. He was really kicking the car door really hard."

"He was abusing me and saying all sorts of other things.

"I was crying and was so upset and panicked. I didn't know what to do.

Kauser of Blackburn who was in Oldham visiting her relatives says that passers-by then intervened and tried to pull him away but he wouldn't listen to them.

"I called the police from my phone but even when they arrived he still kept saying, 'I want her to take off her veil.' "I was still crying and in shock when I got to the police station.

"I am so glad my car was near by. I dread to think what would have happened if my car was parked further away."

"I go out everywhere and this is the first time anything like this has happened to me."

Her sister-in-law Ruksana Calisir said Kauser didn't even tell her family about the incident until days later.

"I was so angry when I heard about it. She seemed to think there some sort of shame in telling us.

"She is a very strong person and nothing seems to bother her but this incident has left her in total shock.

"She is absolutely petrified and doesn't want to go out at all now. She is such a good and kind-hearted person I am absolutely disgusted someone would put her through this.

"People need to know that incidents like these take place and if they are not reported then people will get away with it."

Police said a 50-year-old man from Oldham was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated damage to a vehicle and was bailed, pending further inquiries.

The guy was he a muslim or non muslim?

if he was a non muslim then im not suprised. I dont know what it is about the non muslims in Oldham but there are really rude and racisit. I have never noticed it in any other town. There seems to be a really big divide amongst the muslims and non muslims in that town.

I don't see what the fuss is about. Some guy assaulted a woman. he was arrested and is being dealt with through the legal system.

We all know there are intolerant people around. Nothing new.

In the town that had the Oldham riots? The same one where there was a trainee copper filmed in "The Secret Policeman" who wanted to pulled a pillow case over his head to emulate the KKK?

when some racist thug smacks you one and terrifies you so much that you're too scared to leave your own home you won't be saying that, or u might knowing you :?

I have had my run ins. And the other guy cheated. he had a dog. But this is not national news matter. stuff happens. The police are dealing with it. Not shocking that this happened in Oldham.

(the fact that it happened in the daytime in the town center is a different matter though. I AM surprised that no one intervened. Or kicked the cr*p out of the guy.)

what happened? did the dog bite you? allhamdulilah ta'ala we don't get any racist attacks happening here, well not to my knowledge anyway and inshaa'Allah it will stay that way!

Nothing happened apart from an almost scuffle. Then my bus arrived and I got on it. Next day it was business as usual, I went along the exact same route. I was hoping to meet the guy again, but without the dog. I would probably have got battered as the guy was pretty built, but that was not really too much of an issue.

Never saw him again. Soon after, forgot about the incident 'til now.

I have never had a problem with any non-muslims in this country...apart from the local ones in Oldham. The general attitude is sickening, and racism is rife.

Even surroundin area non muslims from places like Ashton, rochdale, bury etc aint as bad as these lot.

I think theyre jus jealous of the fact that muslims are doin well..and theyre out every weekend blowing there £ on alcohol etc

another hijab issue:

I read about this issue a while back - to me this issue is as silly as wishing to get into modelling but fighting for the right to keep the burkha on.

Most hairdressers/beauticians are beautiful or usually done up. They are selling a product - beautiful hair or skin.

Some beauticians do not even allow overweight people to work for them - I dont see overweight people trying to sue them.

Plus, theres loads of women only salons (in london anyway) which allow Muslim women to wear the hijaab.

This is a shocking incident.

My wife wears the veil, and we have been subjected to abuse once or twice, but nothing as bad as this.

What is even more shocking is that Asians are the ones who are the worst, especially Pakistanis, they will give you stares and look at you though as you've landed from some other planet. Most white people don't have a problem.

It is, at the least, disliked for a mature sane woman to leave the house on her own, the view of the consensus as I understand it.

disliked is nice legal term.

What does it have to do with this topic?

The only thing a concesus ever proved was how guliable people are.

Just becoz every agrees on how certain things should be done. Doesnt necessarily make them right.

And for future reference just because it's inexplicted doesn't mean it's inexplicable.

The consensus (ijma (of the ulama)) is the third of the four fundamentals of Islamic law, namely the Quran-al Majid, the hadith mubarak, the ijma and qiyas.

In regards to the relevancy to this discussion, well I thought it was obvious that I was suggesting that the victimised women shouldn't have been out on her own.

p.s. inexplicted isn't a word I think you mean unexplicated

Yes it does. There is a hadith I think which is to the words that the Muslim ummah will never unite on something which is wrong.

Be careful when discussing issues of fiqh.

I myself was surprised at Berachia's claim. No idea where it is from as I have not read it, but you cannot just disagree like you did.

I will assume a member more knowledgeable on this issue will be able to enlighten us. Any takers?

Hiding from abuse is never an answer. Suppose if it was two women? Do you think it would have made a difference? I doubt it.
