The Drive of your life

I think it is about time I got back to my driving lessons... after a hiatus of erm... 7 years? (which was a single lesson after my previous hiatus of a year when I had taken three... The first time the Driving instructors uncle died, I never bothered with a replacement, the second time the (different) instructor never bothered to turn up for the second lesson. I never bothered to rearrange.)

So first things first, I Googled (is it still capitals when used as a verb?) for "driving lessons oldham". Got me some good hits. It seems lessons are around £20+ these days.

While looking around I came across . No idea how much they cost (sent an email), but what this site does have is a free test questions on there. No need to register.

First I tried the theory. 20 questions I selected. got 17 right, one more which I should have. Not too bad considering how out of the loop I am.

Then came the hazard perception. Got 38%. Tried again, got bored half way through, but I would have probably hit 40+%. Which is disastrous. I guess I will improve after trying it a thousand times...

They also have an offer on for 5 lessons for £56 (first free, followed by 4 for £14 each... any more @£19.50), so I went for it. Just waiting for a call back.

I honestly dont know how ppl can leave driving for soo long. I soon as i hit 17 i was behind the wheel (i would have had a lesson on my birthday but they were all booked up). I remember paying £15 with my first instructor, he spent alot of time shouting at me but he was still really good. However it didnt last, he died on Christmas day(and no i didnt do anything to cause it) tis was sad. By the time i passed it had gone up to £18.

Your best bet is to get the yellow pages out and ring around to find a good deal or check your local paper. From personal experience and other ppl i know its best to go private then with a company.
Most ppl are tempted by the discount that companies offer when you block book but don’t get lured into the trap its a trick I tell you. They go at a really slow pace and don’t move onto the next thing unless you have got the thing your currently doing perfect. Slow pace = spending more money. Most of the company instructors also wont allow you to put in for your practical even if you think your ready until they think your ready (which is when they have screwed you for every penny you have!). My younger sis was with BSM and they spent a lot of time parked up with him talking then her actually driving and when the time came when she thought she were ready for her practical he wouldnt let her book it! so she dropped him and went private with some guy in Oldham.

There quite a few online sites that offer free multiple choice and hazard perception tests otherwise go to your local library. WHSmith also sells all the driving books and discs but i have to warn you they can be quite expensive.
