The last sermon

The Last sermon of the beloved Prophet, peace be upon him.

****************

“O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

Words of wisdom from inspiring people

"Ilm (knowledge) is not memorization of lines from a book or storing mass information in memory, a computer can hold masses and masses of information, rather knowledge is internalization of the sacred texts, knowledge is presence of Rūh (soul) and Hāl (state), information that is not internalized and practiced is just information, not real Ilm and has no benefit, the whole purpose is to be transformed."

- Sayyidi Shaykh Dr. Muhammad bin Yahya al-Husayni al-Ninowy

Keep them coming.

Are you smarter than you think?

Another copy and paste job, but this is an interesting article. Some of these points are easily dismissed, so it makes you think outside the box. Though the last one contradicts the first point.

Nine Ways To Become Smarter Than You Think:

1. Spend Significant Chunks of Time Offline

2. Engage in “Cognitive Diversity”: Do Something Mentally Different

3. Don’t Isolate Yourself: Learn Social Thinking

4. Find Your Passion: It Drives Memory and Creativity

5. Don’t Just Follow The “Thought Leaders” Or Elite

6. Know When (And When Not) To Rely On “Outsourced Intelligence”

7. Play Video Games, The Gateway Drug To New Learning

8. Be Willing To Adapt Your Thinking Strategies

Are you mentally strong?

Mentally strong people have healthy habits. They manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that set them up for success in life.

1. They Don’t Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves

2. They Don’t Give Away Their Power

3. They Don’t Shy Away from Change

4. They Don’t Waste Energy on Things They Can’t Control

5. They Don’t Worry About Pleasing Everyone

6. They Don’t Fear Taking Calculated Risks

7. They Don’t Dwell on the Past

8. They Don’t Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over

9. They Don’t Resent Other People’s Success

10. They Don’t Give Up After the First Failure

11. They Don’t Fear Alone Time

12. They Don’t Feel the World Owes Them Anything

A discussion

Technology has destroyed communication in numerous ways. Before the introduction of phones, ipads, Television, laptops, xbox, computer games, ipods etc, society was active and mentally healthy. Being sociable does not represent the amount of hours you spend behind a screen; rather it defines how well you are when it comes to communicating TO and WITH people. Before the emergence of technology, a stress free life was laid out with tight knit communities and suicide rates were not as high! People fall out now even more as they did before, simply because of a misplaced explanation mark, forgetting an emoticon or the extra 'X' at the end of a message.

Taking Advantage of Ramadan

From an email which I thought I'd share on here; A few ways in which you can take advantage of this month, especially the last 10 days;

1) Reserve a Private Meeting with Allah - Set a time before or after suhoor to be alone with Allah (swt).  Use this time to connect to Him by praying, making du`a’, or reading Qur’an. There is no other time like it. The Prophet ﷺ said: “When the last one-third of the night remains, our Lord, the Glorious One, descends towards the lower heaven and proclaims: ‘Is there anyone supplicating to Me, so that I grant his supplication? Is there anyone begging of Me for anything so that I grant him his wish? Is there anyone who seeks My forgiveness, so that I forgive him?’” [Bukhari and Muslim].

Ramadan 2013

According to Google it is Ramadan in 4233600 seconds...... Just 7 weeks.

The companions used to prepare 6 months before, so you can say this blog is 192414 minutes late. Oops.

This is the one and only Ramadan 2013 blog where you can say anything and everything up until the month is over. (That's why I made sure I got in there before anyone else did Dirol )

Ramadan is a MASSIVE deal because its just amazing all year round. The physical, mental and spiritual peace is just surreal. We shouldn't take this opportunity for granted, so strive to capture as much benefits as possible!
