By The Revival Foreign Correspondent Team. A look back at the main events in the world over the last month or so… from a Muslim viewpoint for a change.

SYRIA: Hafiz al Assad passes away

Known as the ‘Lion’ of the Middle East (probably by his mate Clinton), Hafiz al Assad passed away rocking the peace process further and putting in doubt Israel’s eventual return of the Golan Heights. We hope that President Bashar follows the policy of being harsh on the Muslims enemies and soft on his people unlike his predecessors. But for some reason that isn’t gonna happen is it?

PAKISTAN: No tax please!

General Pervaiz Musharaf has stated that traders will have to pay tax in order to strengthen the economy and cut down on loans from IMF and World Bank. This hasn’t gone down well at all with many shops remaining shut in protest. It has definitely weakened the economy and has put the country into a major crisis. Witness the Revolution: Mustafvi Inqilaab or the Prophetic Revolution moved steps closer to achievement as more and more people lend weight to Minhaj ul Quran Movement and its leader. Prof. Tahir ul Qadri. Renowned Pakistani film actors Nadeem, Firdos Jamal, and Afzaal gave their backing and support to the Movement.

Also over the last few months over a thousand politicians and members of the main political parties in Pakistan including Muslim League, Peoples Party, Jamat-e-Islami and Imran Khan’s Tehreek Insaf have joined P.A.T (Minhaj ul Quran’s political wing) as stated in the Pakistani press.

The Movement has spearheaded the mass drive for literacy in the country as a means for making the people more aware and thus strengthening the economy with more skilled workers.

Another project has been its raising of massive funds to help in the relief effort of the states of Sindh and Baluchistan which have been blighted by drought. Minhaj ul Quran Movement is clearly the only solution for Pakistan in its attempts to build itself and to pursue its ultimate goal of creation, a State for Muslims and Islam.

Time and time again, Prof Qadri has presented methods of implementing the Islamic System in Pakistan including a workable formula for interest free banking.

The Movement has attracted widespread support since its inception in 1981 making it the largest non-Governmental Organisation in the world. It is the opinion of many that there is no alternative for Pakistan but Prof Qadri.

CHECHNYA: Chechen mufti named as head of Russian administration

The Kremlin has appointed the pro-Moscow Chechen religious leader Akhmad-Khadja Kadyrov as head of the Russian administration in Chechnya, President Vladimir Putin’s press service stated.

The appointment followed Putin’s decree recently assuming direct presidential rule over Chechnya, in Moscow’s latest bid to shore up its shaky control of the war-torn southern territory. Well, it looks like a ‘government scholar’ since he’s condemning the Chechen mujahideens and supporting the Dajjal himself- Mr.Putin. So it’s not that much of a good news, is it?

Jihad in Chechnya: the latest news… In Argun, (June) 13 kilometres (eight miles) east of Grozny, several hours of fierce fighting between federal troops and about 100 Chechen mujahideen and Russian soldiers were left “dead and wounded” on both sides.

The last major Chechen hold, Komsomolskoye, fell to government forces in late March after weeks of fighting for control of the strategic village in the foothills of the southern mountains.

But despite a fierce Russian onslaught, about 1,500 mujahideen remain holed up in the rugged highlands, launching deadly ambushes on Moscow’s forces in the mountains and the northern plains held by Russian troops.

The Russians said they had launched a special operation to capture leading Chechen warlords and reported the deaths of 25 mujahideen on the border between Chechnya and Georgia. But despite having 140,000 troops in the republic at one stage, Moscow has failed to bring an end to the mujahideen’s activity, which has continued even after the capital Grozny fell in February.

A couple of thousand of mujahideen are scaring the ‘mighty’ Russians to death, even after they (the Russians) have destroyed village after village, tortured, murdered and raped any Muslim in sight. The Mujahideen will continue to sacrifice their blood for the sake of Allahs deen. May Allah grant them victory.

NIGERIA: Sharia has been imposed

There was widespread celebration (…in Nigeria at least…) upon the official establishment of the Sharia as the law of the state. This is one of the first states to establish a Sharia law in its true sense, we wish them good luck. However we (The Revival) have a niggling feeling that USA will shortly call Nigeria a terrorist state and impose many sanctions upon it.

MIDDLE EAST: Arab Israeli MP proposes Nobel prize for Hezbollah leader

An Arab Israeli MP has called for the Nobel peace prize to be awarded to Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah for forcing an end to Israel’s 22-year occupation of south Lebanon.

Taleb al-Sanaa of the United Arab List said Nasrallah deserved the prize for prompting Israel’s “peaceful” withdrawal from its northern neighbour last month after the collapse of its allied militia in the face of advancing Hezbollah guerrillas. Sanaa is one of 10 MPs from Arab parties in Israel, which has an Arab community of around one million people.

UNITED KINGDOM: He’s Back!

Mike Tyson was back again in the UK for his latest fight. As usual he created a big fuss in the media and on the streets. Malik Abdul Aziz (that’s his real name) KO,d his opponent in the first 10 seconds, and won within 40 seconds.

Scientific Breakthrough

A coalition of scientists have cracked most of the genetic code. This will eventually lead to the cure of many diseases. But don’t get your hopes up, they predict this will not happen in our lifetimes.

BELGIUM/HOLLAND: Euro 2000

4 weeks of football madness have just passed. As usual the English hooligans have done the damage and left a scar on the tournament. England couldn’t even make it to the knock out stages! The eventual winners were France.
